MGS2 had to cut a lot of things but the game itself is complete. The ending is Raiden being his own person and Snake talking of doing something worthy. While not all the plotlines are completed, there's a conclusion to the main arc. In MGS V this doesn't happen, because you can see Konami released the game incomplete and Kojima tried to ate more than he could chow. You have the whole Sally build up with Liquid leads to a whole mission that wasn't finished, the game abruptly ends with Venom Snake in the future discovering he isn't BB. An open world that at times feels incomplete and repetitive, features that were removed and overall less diversity in gameplay than PW.

Rising is really short, but the whole game feels complete.

Nah, but for me the main problem wasn't even the cut, mostly boring story that goes against everything MGS. for me the main reason was that it just felt like a Peace Walker 2, like they tested that format on a smaller scale then went with it main MGS game, even though they should have brought us another goofy sneaking epic, not this. No one wants this "play a couple of missions then drop the game for a while, or notice how generic the content is" from a home console/PC game. You want a feeling of progress, either through the story or the map, but you do tons of generic missions on the map and the story is progressed in a way that feels not very fluid (wasnt fluidity the reason it went open world). You select a mission and if you're lucky you get a cutscene inside the mission, otherwise it's either loredumb via text/radio or "hey come back to motherbase so we can dumb some story on you"

I thought PW was actually a pretty strong entry in the series, it held up really well for a psp game. Obviously it wasn't as good as 2 or 3, but the gameplay had a lot of depth and content, and the story was told in an interesting way. I can let most of that stuff go, It's not necessarily bad on it's own, but it is an awful MGS game . What I felt was the real shit sandwich was that we were all looking forward to building outer heaven and seeing how big boss becomes the villain of the MGS series. Instead what we got was an explanation for why we kill Big Boss twice in the original MG games, something that you could have just hand waved away by saying he survived or something, and we also got a ton of bullshit about MUH WOLBACHIA to explain away any and all supernatural phenomena, which should have just been left the way it was as a mystery.

Open world is the great scourge of vidya, and has ruined untold number of games because of how easy it is to impress normies by making an enormous map with nothing in it. I could probably count on one hand all the games ever made that weren't ruined by open world.

MGS3 was always enough of an explanation of why Big Boss was a villain. Then Peace Walker explained why he came up with Outer Heaven. I don't know why as soon as trailer for MGSV hit people decided we suddenly needed more info about Big Boss.
