Yeah, it's true. The mobile gaming market has grown considerably smaller than I thought it would. I guess the flooding of many cash cow apps dilluted the app store, drowning out any success for a substantial and well-made game.

Super Mario Run is actually really damn good.
Just the demo gives you quite a good bit of play time, and timing jumps makes it harder than any NSMB title so far, if you want to collect all the special coins. But it also isn't so hard that you can't get through the level swiftly.

Dunno if it's worth the 10 dollars but I still haven't even gotten everything in the demo.

And now the Switch seems to be merging Nintendo's handheld and home consoles together while Sony probably won't release a successor to the Vita.

The Sony portables were never really competitive with the Game Boy, and the PSP probably could attribute a lot of its unit sales to the fact that it was used as an emulation machine (whereas the Vita was hard to crack and had proprietary memory cards).

I would say that the Nintendo handheld decline is the slow cooling of the Pokémon franchise, and the DS got the most benefit since the original games were released at the tail end of the original/Color's lifespan, and the GBA only dominated for 3 years instead of over 7 like the DS did (had the GBA not been outmoded so quickly, who KNOWS how it would've done).

I think it was an interesting twist on the genre, but it mostly ended up being underutilized. Hexes is the true evolution of Flow.

I think part of the reason the 4th gen was so great was because there was a lot of competition. Nintendo had to fight two fronts with Sega in the West and NEC in the East so it couldn't afford to be as obstinate as the NES days, arcades were still relatively strong especially for fighting games, handhelds were still too weak to damage the home market, PC god games like Doom and provided a strong alternative to consoles.

The 5th and 6th gen was just Sony fucking everybody in the ass, the 7th started interesting with a load of 360 exclusives and the runaway success of the Wii but started to slog in the second half, and the 8th is a goddamn joke.

Monster strike is pretty fun and you can kind of get around the jewish gacha system if you play multiplayer. The English version flopped and is shutting down while the Japanese version is printing money and has collaboration events constantly, right now they got a Full Metal Alchemist collaboration going

Kingdom Hearts is a nice little time waster, straightforward micro transactions don't bog the game down unless youre into leaderboard stuff (high score challenges, union ranking), and they have a lot of 0-1 AP campaigns so missions are free/easy to do multiple times, they have free Cid medal missions every day and sometimes have free daily Jewel quests.

One complaint I do have is that the difficulty spike for some missions is a bit much. I used to be able to get at least 4 Organization medals during the Org. XIII events, now I'm lucky to be able to get 2 because of how difficult it gets. And dont even get me started on Pride mode. I can beat Pride mode, but goddamn is it hard.

Otherwise story mode is pretty doable, story is meh, gameplay is easy, and its actually pretty satisfying to win with a setup you like with strategies you like. Pic related, easy setup and decent payoff for a wide variety of semi difficult stages

You literally get a max luck character for doing the normal quests. It's not a good one but it will kickstart your progress towards a better one. They also have a library thing where you can play almost any quest in the game at any time, limited to 5 times per day.

End of month gatcha is coming up in a week and it has higher chance of 5 stars than normal so it would be a good gatcha to start with

Mobius Final Fantasy is pretty fun to play in short bursts. You don't have to spend a penny to be good, there's a decent amount of content, and the gameplay is simple but complex enough to keep you progressing. Also the OST is good. Only downside I can think of is that you need a good phone to run it because the graphics will drain your battery and CPU usage.

I tried Asphalt 8 but it didn't click with me, plus it ran like ass on my devices. That said, I had already invested a good amount of time on this one so I was probably somewhat biased to not want to play it anyway.
As far as gacha games go, it's pretty standard and I'd dare to even say tame. It's no different from something like that Fire Emblem gacha that came out recently, but with cars.
There's just one PvP mode, and winning isn't a requirement to get the rewards from it, playing is enough. There are constant special event cars, some are pretty cool, some are a little boring imo. Updates are about monthly.
It has a typical fuel/tickets refill over time system, but it's manageable to go at your own pace.
The only things that can only be bought with real money are cars that are essentially useless, and more often than not are just recolors or special vinyls on cars obtainable for free (like Razor's Mustang from MW for example, no different from the Mustang you can get normally).
Honestly, if you like collecting things and upgrading them very slowly, this game will be the bane of your existance. I'm nearing 18 days of playtime, not a cent spent on it, and just the completion aspect checks off my autism just right.

I bought Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic for $5 and its pretty great. Literally just a port of RCT1 with menus built around the touchscreen and it seems to have more scenarios than original
