He's right, AC4 is the weakest PS2 Ace Combat Game but it gets hyped up because it was the first.

The scripted enemies, useless allies and downtime during missions are valid complaints.
While the story is great the presentation (low res power points presentations) is terrible compared to 5 and Zero.
The Mission Structure was terrible, 90% of the Missions are just reaching a certain score then fight a boss instead of having actual Objectives that immerse you in the setting.

You can make excuses for all of this and they're probably legit but ask yourself: If you don't have to make any of those excuses for 5 and Zero, how is 4 better?

4, 5, and Zero are the only current games in the franchise that I would consider must-plays. You can emulate them, but last time I tried there was some serious graphical issues with the terrain. Better to just play them on a PS2 since they are dirt cheap anyways.

And there are plenty of missions in 04 that you're stuck idling in the air if you take down all the ground/air targets and have to wait for the timer to run out. Also Comona is an example of a scripted battle since the only thing that can change is you can hit one of the Yellows and take them off the battle sooner before the bombers are detected on radar.
