The llamas you can buy drop blueprints for much better weapons, but then you have to grind for ore and shit that's not all that abundant to create them, and weapons will eventually break from use, so you'll have to grind MORE materials and harder-to-find ore to craft more weapons.

There is no in-game currency or store, at least in the closed alpha, unless you mean the victory points that are really only used to upgrade stuff or buy those loot llamas in lieu of real money.
There's like 3 or 4 different types of XP though, which are also used to upgrade your characters, NPCs, weapons, and tools/traps.
Storage varies, you'll usually end up running out of space unless you craft a decent amount, though the main building materials (stone, wood, and metal) are drained like water during defense.

Ammo is either Crafted or Looted. Ammo is a little rare early-on, but once you get past the super-early game, Ammo is never an issue except Energy weapons, but those clear up by mid-game.
And durability is a little weird. You get Schematics which never break and can be recycled to improve other Schematics or transformed into other Schematics, but the weapons and such you make from them do have durability that is depleted with every shot fired/every enemy hit if Melee or Trap. You can also find weapons and traps in the world which are just the things you use and not schematics which usually also start with sub-half durability, but are usually stronger than the stuff you can currently craft.

Hell, I'd argue that if you play competitively ONLY to raise your rank instead of doing so because you also enjoy it, that's grinding.

You don't even have access to Outlander at first. You have to unlock access to them from the Skill Tree (which is gated behind a good few Quests). And then if you haven't popped one from a Llama yet, you gotta do a pretty easy Quest to get a green-rarity one with awful punk hair.
