Does a large social media presence (Twitter followers, Youtube views, etc) correlate to sales? I know most of us aren't marketing experts but with all the money that is put into these things have any companies ever actually translated those numbers into actual sales or money?

It leads to people talking about it, which means more people know about it, which means sales.

I think the point of putting effort into social media is the fact that it takes very little money to do so. PR Directors are always going to be a part of a large company, and they're always going to be payed the same amount, so the PR director might as well make his/her life easier by promoting their company's products through a free platform. And worst case scenario, if they DO pay money, it'll be a very miniscule amount versus other means.
