Killer 7

I don't know if I would go as far as "masterpiece" but it was definitely a very good game for me. Interesting gameplays ideas tied to the atmosphere and general thematic of the game. It's rare.

true, but more often that not it comes by accident and through technological limitations rather than any sort of thought put into it

i mean i enjoyed no more heroes on wii because the city was scorched by summer sun and nearly barren of people, and the grind was appropriately mind numbing, but the former came from tech limitations of the console and the latter through suda being a fucking retard so any atmosphere i got and distilled and/or interpreted came by pure chance

similarly, killer 7 has wonky gameplay, idiotic 'plot' and shitty pacing so anything it manages to produce mostly comes IN SPITE of its design

It's a top ten game for me along with Deadly Premonition.

It really opened up the world of Suda51 games for me and throughly enjoyed Flower Sun and Rain, No More Heroes, Killer is Dead and Shadows Of the Damned all thanks to Killer 7. Lollipop chainsaw was hit and miss for me though.

It's Sudas best work and I feel it's a game people have to play before they die.

it's almost as if you're reaching, but if i wasn't too lazy and going for a run right now i'd write how i never finished many of my favourite games because the only thing that matters to me is atmosphere and pacing

it's enough for me to glimpse what k7 is about, not to actually play it through the end; i can barely make myself sit through a 90 minute movie, much less through 20+ hour video game; i'm in it for the atmosphere.

that being said i'm fairly certain i put some 4-5 hrs into it and three times that on nmh

It's definitely a masterpiece in terms of design, and worthy of praise for being so fucking outright ballsy and ahead of its time.

Pretty much every aspect of the game bar its gameplay is so meticulously crafted and polished to the extreme. The multilayered plot, the ultra confident cel-shaded graphics and visual overlays, the sharp and aggressive SFX, the schizophrenic soundtrack that jumps from haunting ambient to upbeat techno...

Even the intro screens when you first boot up are unforgettable. The Heaven smiles laughing with each company logo, followed by the jolt of a gun shot and blood covering the screen. And that's before you even get to the fucking title screen
