I played it back in February and March and it was laughably broken to the point where it was almost unplayable due to the level of griefing. Unless it's changed significantly since March, there was nothing in there that made it feel intensely different from most other "Early Access" "Open World" games that are flooding Steam these days.

It also doesn't really hit the tone of Conan for me. Exiles just feels like a palette-swapped version of Generic Open World Survival Game #123 with less content than the bigger ones like Rust or the one with the dinosaurs.

I found it massively disappointing. Wondering if anyone else has played it for longer than me and if the game has significantly improved since March. I'd rather play Funcom's janky MMO than return to it.

There are lots of Western games with full female nudity if you're savvy enough to look for them. The fucking MMO lets you run around naked and it's extremely un-sexy since every other fucking player is already doing it.

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one. Literally thousands of others lost interest like me.

What really bothers me is that the game could potentially be very different now, but the barebones launch was so bland and uninspired that I never bothered to check back in. Having an Early Access game launch with few features isn't acceptable anymore when every one of their competitors is also doing it. It just made Conan Exiles feel that much more forgettable in the middle of that ocean of mediocrity.

I just remembered how griefers would build cheap floor tiles all over the map to "reserve" land without any limit. Some of them would even build fences and gates around NPC settlements so that it would be impossible to interact with them, let alone explore the larger map. You'd have to wait for an admin to finally wake up and clear the space. They'd rarely bother to ban the griefer so the griefer would just return with a day or two and do it again on other parts of the map.

I think they finally added a decay timer so that tiles would eventually fall apart, but the fact that they didn't have that from the start just shows how rushed and buggy the game has always been. I also don't understand how a single player was allowed to reserve a potentially unlimited amount of land across the entire map without the backing of a clan or something similar.

This is what bugs me the most about games like this. They use EA as a shield from any criticism, but will literally never finish the fucking game. It was intentional, too, since releasing the game means people who bought during EA can refund.

There's going to be a huge expansion release in August or September. Adding frozen wasteland.

The problem is that a change in setting and a few new mobs isn't going to do much for me (and the thousands of others who left in March). The core problem with the vast majority of early access survival open world games is that they don't really have much of an end-game. There's not much of a reason to build a settlement in Game C instead of Game B or Game A when they all have largely the same mechanics.

Whoever's pumping money into the development team really needed to do a study on player retention instead of just copying elements from other games and slapping the Conan IP onto it.
