You don't have to be on Steam to have a PC version, you could just sell a game on your website and get 100% of the profit. They sell some PC games that way already.

In fact, even with Steam the cut they get is much larger than any console manufacturer and there's no physical launch to worry about (massive savings) so even with sales they make so much more per copy that PC should absolutely be what every publisher pushes for as the main platform.

The PS4 collection pretty much covers what you'll need to know to keep up. I'm not wholly denying the complication of the story, but the majority of it comes from people not playing the non-numbered games. For example, many people skipped Chain of Memories and were confused going into KH2 and didn't realize Chain of Memories connects KH1 and KH2 almost toe-to-toe. In the past, the games were spread out across different consoles and because of that, people figured that the ones not on PS2 were just spinoffs when in reality, the non-numbered games all supplement the story. Granted, you don't have to play every single KH game such as 358/2 days (replaced by the official movie), but they all have relevance in some way to the current plot.
Along with everything here, the games do expect you to have played the previous games in the series with the way they structure their story. I'm not saying there won't be, but don't expect a really strong recap of everything in KH3.
