Note on modding that it's not completely the devs fault. I don't think we will ever relive the modding scene of early 00s because why would you spend hundreds of hours on modding when you can make your own game much easier these days.

If you want to argue that current business practice by larger scale companies have become increasingly more anti-consumer over the past few decades, I'll completely agree with you on that, the state of the industry isn't perfect and we're partly to blame for that happening, but to say gaming as a whole is shit is just silly.
