The games got progressively better as the series continued, expanding the lore and roster.

Long time fans simply look forward to their favorite minor characters from the story/history to appear now and it became overtly clear back at 7 the series is circling the bottom of the drain now for it's own life span.

From a completionist perspective at least there is always boat loads to do each game due to the huge cast of characters and items to collect.

Musou games sell like dogshit on PC and Koei didn't port Nioh either. At the same time they did port a lot of other games, including musou so it's more likely than not.

Since the story is back to being character based I wonder who are going to be actually playable outside Free Mode, I mean they have to focus on certain characters, I don't see them making full stories for 90+ characters individually.

At what exactly? With Man Chong in the series now we can get Defense of Hefei castle stages, with Zhou Cang we can get added laughs at Guan Yu's defeat since he joins him with Ping, with Cheng Pu we now have the canon field commander for Chibi to Zhou Yu's directions.

With each game they're adding new characters to broaden the sense of scale from the history. If anything the series continues to peak.

I don't think he's talking about the amount of content, more about the quality of it. I'm of the same mind, I used to be a fan of this series but when I played DW8 I didn't want to touch Jin because I just hated everyone in it, or when late Shu story gave me Liu Shan and two people who looked like they're from a cheap dating sim to play as, I just didn't feel like continuing.

It's not like the earlier games used to be completely free of this, but it was at a minimum. The games feel a bit schizophrenic now. Almost like a character roster from three different games rolled up into one.

Same story at large but each game tries to give different dialogue, new angle to important scenes; each new game also introduces new characters and usualy said game will then have scenes for these characters where they hadn't before, so new parts of the story can now be told.

Example:

- Original story: Said guy burned bridge so the other guy could crossed.

- Game 1: Doesn't have the guy who burned the bridge so the story plays out with that other guy crossing that bridge no problem.

- Game 2: Now has the guy who burned that bridge so his story part will now play more in tune with the novel.

10 is the best for roleplaying and officer play, 11 is the best for ruler play. 13 with the PUK is like a fusion of both and is okay, but the balancing can be really shoddy. Unless you really tune down the difficulty or turn off historical trend, Cao Cao is pretty much guaranteed to win in any scenario that leads him to beating Yuan Shao or after it. But don't play 13 without the PUK, it's not worth it at all.

I think Shu's best set-up for a real tragedy, the only thing missing are actually portraying them as flawed characters that fail to overcome their weaknesses. Liu Bei's rage at Yiling should be the breaking point at the end of a long road of his ideals being failed and his selflessness eroding as he's forced to conquer or die.

I just hope they get rid of that mechanic in DW8 that let you use your mini-super or whatever it was. As Xiahou Yuan you could do those hovering arrow shots every 20 seconds that wrecked huge groups of enemies. Made the game too easy, that thing was better than your musou which was just a glorified combo breaker. The whole flow of the game was fucked up for me.
