one thing with this game is I wish the navigation were done without the use of the map. It almost feels like a perfect fusion of sweet action combat and fantasy roleplay, but I never felt like it actually achieved truly good adventuring navigation, such as using landmarks, signposts, and dialog descriptions to find places. The closest to that was having to learn your way around the witch's forest, which was fun, but everything else has a big flashing marker on the map so you can guide yourself in a straight line there

I know Capcom loves re-releasing their games with slightly updated versions, but come on. How many versions of the same game do people need to buy/support before they realize a sequel may be successful? I know DD didn't sell amazingly in general and is a bit of a diamond in the rough, but you'd think they would get the hint that there is a serious consumer base for the series. If they came out with a sequel that polishes the game up, makes the world a bit tighter/more interesting to explore, pushed what went into making Dark Arisen, and marketed it better, it would sell really well.

Though this is the same company that expected Resident Evil 6 and DmC to sell what, millions and millions of copies? Add to it their latest stupidity with their franchises. Capcom has a huge opportunity right in front of them and they'd rather wallow around in making garbage like the new MvC.

eh, I can kinda see that, but it's one of the only AAA aRPG games that isn't slowpaced and gave the players a lot of freedom to dick around in recent memory so it was a nice change of pace. probably one of the reasons why a lot of people are so enamored with it.

If they ever make a sequel, spiritual or otherwise, to Dragon's Dogma, I hope that the online portion encourages cooperative communities as much as the PC release did. Playing DDDA and dispensing advice, rentals, shooting the shit with other Arisen about pawns and lore made the game at least 3x funner than it would have been playing alone.

Dragon's Dogma is greater than the sum of its parts. It's really hard to explain why it's such a fucking fantastic game, but the entire game, its mechanics, world and themes, just ties together so well that it becomes an unforgettable experience. I've tried that with my pawn too. It doesn't work the way I wish it did, which is very unfortunate. Started out with a rusted archistaff casting miasma so she would poison and torpor everything that touched the miasma cloud, but that was the only effective thing she could do. Her other damage spells were weak due to the rusted archistaff, and using miasma/torpor with a different staff wasn't as effective. Bleaing/silentium are very short range and situational, petrification takes too long to have an effect (though again with the rusted archistaff, pretty effective on eliminators), exequy is useless since no pawn can use it correctly, it takes too long and eats too much stamina for them to ever kill anything with it.

I made mine a mage pawn instead since they're not expected to deal damage and anodyne/halidom work regardless of staff power. She lost miasma for that ranged aoe cloud poison/torpor, but got grapnel instead. It's less effective in afflicting the debuffs, but when it does torpor and grapnel at the same time, the held enemy practically can't move at all. Silentium and blearing are still situational, but there. Spellscree is a nice little buff, even though it looks ugly. I really, really fucking wish mages could have sopor and perdition, but even if you cheat them on to your pawn they don't have the AI to use the spells correctly.

I really love this game, but often I wish the classes had more options as to what they can do. Debuff sorcs, shielding mages, more mobile warriors, something like that.

Don't stick to one class only. It's expected that you're going to switch classes throughout the game to level them up and earn their best passive skills, which can be equipped regardless of whatever class you're playing at the time. Different classes also have different stat growths when they level up, which can influence your character's stats.

The only really bad player class is the Mage, which is strictly inferior to Sorcerer in terms of stat growths.

Pawns are pretty much good with anything so long as they're properly geared and have good skills.

Mage pawns tend to get a lot of rentals at low levels because they have access to a healing spell that makes life easier. However, healing spells don't scale with level, and only become useful for conserving consumables at higher levels.

Fighters tend to get a fair bit of rentals after Mages because everyone thinks they need a "tank" class.

Striders and Rangers also get a fair bit of rentals. This also goes for Sorcerers at higher levels.

Warriors tend to get the lowest amount of rentals since they're viewed as strictly inferior to Fighter pawns. But this is a shitty mainstream opinion with no basis in fact.
