Looks like Microsoft decided to end the Gears IP with this.
Everything M$ touches dies (nokia, windows mobile, skype etc etc)
Fun fact; Bulletstorm has a 4gb Repack torrent and its a better game than Gears 4

Actually before. The update deleted most of the updates, then downloaded itself. It is probably an optimalised version of several updates. I saw a few Xbox games who doing this. If I remember correctly the size is ~20GB smaller than before.
