Dunno, the genre is ever evolving so most devs just keep adding features until their game looks remotely like what they envisioned

I could never get into Rust because it was always just the same whenever I played.

The only way to get established on a server is go play on an empty one, start your own, or be friends with someone already in a powerful group.
Its dumb. The map is pretty shit tier too. Once you've explored all the sites there is no mystery left. Its always the same map with things in varied locations.
