UAHSUhsuHUASHSUhausHAUHSUahhs
They've already made their money, why are they even bothering to make the game still?
I mean I get why they have to do it, but I don't get why anyone would defend it. I sort of hope they're hit with a massive amount of refunds, but seeing the SC fanbase, I doubt it.
Just play Elite instead.
Man, Elite is a shame. It's so CLOSE to being good, but the shitty law scheme and resultant carebear societies has made open play an empty and joyless place.
>Scam Citizen
I just feel bad for everybody who backed it now. Or I would, if it wasn't so obviously bullshit from the very beginning.
Just play freelancer instead.
post >yfw you didn't fall for Scam Citizen.

I never gave them a penny and never expected their full dream to come to fruition. But i want to game to actually come out and be good. I am defending it because it is a step in the right direction a fuckhuge empy world day 1 was unesesary and at best a waste of resources at worst a detriment to the game.

It has shit flying mechanics and combat.
>>384566024
Personal taste, I find the flight model far nicer than SC and the player skill in comabt far more meaningful. Elite isn't cluttered with thousands of kinds of space gizmos, it's just the fundamentals of its space dogfighting, and there's plenty of depth there already.
>>384566173
Ehh i think the gizmos would be cool. Do you use a hotas? And have you tried a sc module? I think with a mousr snd keyboard elite would be giod enough but I can't helo feel it's very vanilla. It's a nice chill game don't get me wrong. But I'm not gonna have funny flying around fragging or playing with friends.

as long as it's fun I don't really care
100 systems seems very unrealistic based on what they've released
but MAYBE if it's actually successful and people keep playing it they'll reach that in 15 years. MMOs last a long time
>>384566441
it's more like a mix of air and sea battles when you add in the bigger ships. Of course it will have depth because it's a video game with lots of mechanics and weapon types not a literal flight simulator where you have one gun and two missile types
>>384564157
It took them 5 years to realise the scope of their project was so unrealistic that they had to cut it down by 95%
WTF!?
You know what's sad? When i see this, all i realize is the game has only been in development 5 years, it's not as bad as I thought. There have games with much smaller scopes in much longer development hell. Not really a defence. Just an observation. Your still a fucking retard for preordering a game before development fucking finished, or some dumbasses here before it even started.

shits running like a shitty little indie hole in the ground but it could be an absolute behemoth if they knew how to manage personnel and budget correctly
If this game failing (and it WILL fail, nothing can avert this at this point) doesn't cause regulations to be passed to make crowdfunding scams like this harder to get away with and protect those who back projects like this better, I'll fucking eat my hat. This game is the poster child of crowdfunding and it's going to get a LOT of attention when it fails and Chris Roberts and co. try to sneak away with the money scot free while CI collapses behind them. and they better hire bodyguards or something with that money because I seriously don't think they will be safe after this shit implodes. Like seriously with the amount of money some people have put into this there are going to be death threats and attempts on this fuck's life.
You say that like it's a bad thing. I understand that they've abandoned a bunch of promises (which shouldn't have been made in the first place). But it's in the name of making a better game. You can't have a game try to do everything, with it also being particularly good at any of it. That said, Star Citizen better be really fucking good at what it sets out to do with these revised goals.

Pre-ordering a game is one thing, pre-ordering the promise that maybe a game like this and that will be made is a whole other thing. How did kickstarter even take off at all? It's so easy for the project to end up wasting your money.
I wouldn't mind if it's like putting down $5 for a copy of the game whenever it does come out or something like that as well as having access to the beta or demos and such. But people are putting down hundreds and thousands of dollars on empty promises.
>>384570847

I love/hate ED, and personally couldn't be less interested in Star Citizen.
However, I do very badly want SC to become all it can be, just so Braben and his chimps would have to get off their fucking asses and make ED all it can be.
Considering what SC has to show for over half a decade and literally hundreds of millions of dollars, though, I guess FDev will just keep coasting on the crest of being the only space sim with a budget around.
>>384570502
Disclaimer: The source of those claims is Derek Smart, who has a long history of hate for this game, and Chris Roberts in general.
According to Smart, Roberts has an extremely high salary, along with things like a personal chef, stylist, speech coach, and other things, paid for by the company's dime.
His wife has also been using the company's equipment and property to film her own private projects unrelated to Star Citizen.
Again, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but Smart has it all fairly well documented and laid out with sources. Up to you wether you want to believe it or not.

What do you mean scammed? Who got scammed and how? You say you saw a failure from a mile, but the game hasnt been released yet and what they have shown so far in demos has been promising. Obviously, the game takes so long to develop due to its ambitious and enormous scope. If this game was funded by normal means, the publisher would have forced the devs to release it already, in a half-assed and rushed state, and it would have been your typical bare bones, generic, piece of shit, open world, multiplat "goty" that /v/ would eat up and never shut up about.

Chris Roberts is a hack, but to be fair they initially we're going for 100 Star systems when the Kickstarter started and had no plans of fully rendered planets, meaning they would just be set dressing anyway. Not defending their obvious poor management but in terms of actual playable area little is lost from this.

You should try ArmA 3 heavily modded with a community that specializes in milsim, if you enjoy that kinda stuff.
ACE & CBA are great mods + RHS mods that add about 600+ currently relevant weapon-systems including tanks and vehicles.

He's right, it's a Ponzi scheme.
I'm really happy about this, I haven't backed it but I've followed development on and off and the fact they're doing this makes me believe I might actually get to play this game soon.
Besides, 100 systems with scale planets would play identically to 5-10 systems with scale planets. You'll still never explore everything even in the reduced scope version.
So, any words on how the backers feel about this shit?
I dont want to go around and say its a scam but it sure as shit looks like one, how can you get 154 million and deliver pretty much nothing?
>over 100 million dollars, 150 million if you include a bank loan they supposedly got

The development sure as fuck isn't ideal, they've increased their scope way too many times, apparently no one can tell Chris no to whatever fuckhuge feature he wants and while their art is pretty and detailed, we know nothing about the gameplay beyond flying ship and an average FPS mode.
