don't, if you're going to get a switch anyways then wait to play it on switch
wii u has a much worse framerate (sub 20 fps in all cities and a lot of combat scenarios) and noticeably worse visuals

Shield surfing is great and Nintendo missed a trick by not removing a bit of realism. Make it so that shields dont degrade when surfed on, no one would complain and it would get rid of the 'I don't want to do this fun thing because I might break my shield' feeling. Also get rid of weapons getting damaged on hitting ore/moveable objects for the same reason. Its a level of inventory management that adds very little to immersion and actively punishes fun.

No one in the snow or desert is saying 'this area is made worse because me shield doesn't degrade while surfing', they day 'oh shit look how great it is being able to surf everywhere'.
>>
>>384564998
Does the hylian shield even break? I have been surfing on it for ages
>>
>>384565121
Dunno, it does break eventually but maybe surfing doesn't effect it. Point still stands though; there's no reason not to make all shields infinitely surfable

Why did you name your horse after a brand of faucet...? Pfisters are shit btw, go with the deltas, easier to put together, cheaper, last longer, and don't look like wire hangers
>>
Just turned this off. Playing the Master Mode, trying to do all the shrines before any beasts or even talking to Impa. Tonight I was Hinox hunting, trying to upgrade my soldier's set, not sure if I'll be able to take on the lynels to get it to max level but I'll try one. I hate that I have to clear divine beasts to get access to some of the shrines.
>>
>>384565121
>>384565249
The Hylian Shield can in fact break. Broke it screwing around with guardian beams in the Forgotten Temple.

I've had the game for around 2 months now and I love it, but my playtime has been scattered all over those 2 months due to work and I haven't explored as much as I would like (I want to find everything.)

Just finished the last Divine Beast, should I restart the game over or just do all of the exploration now?
>>
>>384567078
Did you speak with Kiton after beating Ganon?

If you bored after finishing the game, that's kind of normal for video games I suppose.

Question, how long does it usually take to complete a dungeon? Are they extraordinarily hard, or are they more like Skyrim dungeons? I haven't played Zelda in a very long time, but am probably going to be buying a Switch soon. I am just curious onto the level of difficulty BOTW is at.
>>
>>384570429
The shrines? Fast as fuck. The beasts? ~30 minutes

It's not difficult, but I find them more interesting than skyrim
>>
>>384570575
How many dungeons are in BOTW, if I might ask? How long on average would it take to complete the game?
>>
>>384570429
You mean the shrines? Theres 120 of them. Most of can be beaten in a few mintues, the most difficult or elaborate ones will take maybe 20 minutes.

The 4 devine beasts are the main dungeons. They're open ended and can be tackled in any number of ways. If you know what you're doing you can beat them in about 30 minutes each.
>>
>>384570639
120 Shrines, 4 Divine Beasts, 1 Hyrule Castle.

It's okay. I liked the NES Zelda more though. It's an 8/10 at best.
>>
>>384570639
The game can last 200 hours or 1 hour. Do what you want then when you feel yourself getting bored just head to the final boss.

If you wanted to do all 4 devine beasts, get all the main quests storyline, beat enough shrines to win the master sword you'll still be looking about 40 to 60 hours.
>>
>>384570952
>The game can last 200 hours
Doing what? I currently have 160 hours on record after 3 playthroughs from start to finish.
>>
>>384571103
100% run takes 200 hours if you are not rushing through it
>>
>>384571157
For what purpose though? Why complete it 100% when there's nothing to gain from it?
>>
>>384571326
because its fun?

I have enjoyed everything so far outside of armor upgrading

finding koroks is good shit
>>
>>384571326
What do you gain completing other games to 100%?
>>
>>384571501
A small reward at most. I don't understand completionists
>>
>>384571603
completionists complete games because they love the game regardless of progression

they just like playing it and dont care for rewards
>>

>>
>>384571725
how do you pull that off
>>
>>384570575
I beat the beasts in like 5 minutes matey.
>>
>>384563572
How do you fight a guardian on horseback? Like just keep shooting them with arrows? I wouldn't be able to aim well while it's galloping.
>>
>>384571725
>fighting the pig form of Ganon
>horse controls like ass, won't move like I tell him to

>>384571895

>>
>>384571943
Oh. Well id call that "jumping off your horse to fight a guardian" rather than "fighting a guardian on horseback".
>>
>>384571326
Because its fun? Also DLC is on its way, and I'm trying to clear out Master Mode 100% before it drops
>>
>>384566492
>been playing the game since launch day on switch
>a couple months ago hit 100 shrines
>want to finish them all before taking on Ganon so I can finish the game with the classic tunic
>grinding the last few shrines with guides is fucking boring as hell
>one of the shrines I missed was a collectathon bullshit one
>at this point I just want to get it over with so I can start my no climbing, minimum shrine, master mode playthrough
>>
>>384572127

>>384571895
Slashing at their legs is pretty fun/simple.

>>384571806

>>
>>384572183
Meh, completionist is one way to play, experiencing only the hand carved content is another. I'd love to play the game where I travel by horse from town to town, completing the divine beasts and never worrying about upgrading my armor or hunting shrines out of the way

I also "just started" a few months ago. But I had to put it down. One of these days I'll get back to it. Seems like a 10/10 Zelda. When does it get bad?

My first horse was a blue horse. I couldn't get the lean purple one. I didn't have even close to enough stamina it seems like I needed for it. I was able to mount it three times before it ran away indefinitely. That's my one complaint with the game. It went too RPG on that route. If it was OoT you could have probably got that horse somehow.
>>
>>384572453
>When does it get bad?
divine beasts maybe

and if you continue playing when you get bored instead of just finishing ganon
>>
>>384572453
It starts getting bad when you realize that the game has no set order, which means the dungeons are all about the same in terms of difficulty. Also every champion acts like it's the first one, so they tell you exactly how you're supposed to get through it.

Also any part with Zelda in it. Worst incarnation.

I'd like to tell you why I hate BotW Zelda by first telling you her personality, but there's like 6 of them. She goes from boring to bitchy to pussy to thirsty to mopey to bland, and any interesting moments she might've had by being a more scientific Zelda that thinks critically and logically is thrown out the window for magic. Fuck no.

Is it worth playing on cemu yet or still slow/buggy?
>>
>>384573178
Depends on your specs. I played it at 30 fps 2 or 3 months ago, it crashed alot due to ram usage.
When I was almost done with everything in the game a new cemu version with better memory usage came out and it goes wonderfully for me.
I am almost on the verge of replaying it, but I guess I will wait september at least.

Eventide Island definitely.
I love when a game restricts your abilities temporarily and forces you to get creative with dealing with obstacles.
I need to get back to this game, got it at launch and have somewhere 26 shrines to round out
And 700 Korok seeds to go

Me too, you can feel the love put into the areas of the game. My favorite area would probably be the flooded ruins by a town near a lake. I really hope the Hero's ballad DLC gives us a look into the past because I really want to see what some of the ruins looked like before Ganon fucked them up.
>>
People may complain about there being no end game, just a collectathon of koroks, but I'm having a good time running methodically around the world looking for the little assholes. I had beaten the game months ago with 120 shrines, but coming back to it for the DLC, I am having a good time just exploring the world. Reminds me of early MMOs, EverQuest, and WoW. I haven't really seen much discussion about horseback combat but it's honestly one of my favorite things about the game. Guardians and Hinoxes are really fun to fight on horseback and the lock on -> melee leap combo is so satisfying to use. The lock on camera during these fights is fun to mess around with as well.

40 hours if you rush through and o all the beasts. 100 hours if you go out and explore, 150 if you want to do everything.

It's just using an item at an obvious place and then watch a cutscene play of the puzzle getting solved. That or block pushing. With the physics at least you have more control and freedom over the puzzle and you actually actively participate in every step of the solution.

While I do think the game could use more runes why would anyone think the puzzles in the previous games are better?

I liked the sense of progression. You got a new item which unlocked some other area that let you proceed. It's like a top-down metroidvania. BotW completely destroyed that by letting you go anywhere at anytime. It would be like if you could fight mother brain at the very start of Super Metroid.

>>
>>384592961
It's not a 1:1 copy because they have to recreate everything. So calling it a bootleg is apt.
>>
It really bothers me that on the Wii U, the game looks all washed out like this:
>>384572354

And nothing like this:
>>384574269

I get that HD textures, good anti-aliasing, high resolutions, 60FPS, etc. is hard to do on a Wii U, but why the muted pea-soup colors everywhere?! That shit is free from a performance perspective.
>>
>>384593079

>>
>>384593101
The game can be very washed out looking during cloudy weather and in certain areas that are supposed to look "misty". Even the Switch version. That particular screenshot you pointed out is clear weather at noon, which is a good time of day and good weather conditions to take a non-washed out screenshot. It really has nothing to do with Cemu
>>
>>384593172
Switch version was made by the developers themselves and not some random mooks. Your attempt to muddy the waters failed.
>>
>>384593357
The game assets are run by Cemu in an unmodified state. They are not "recreated". The Switch version is literally recreated, making the Cemu version far closer to the original because it's working from the original files
>>

>>

>>
>>384593716
It's using a third party program that recreates the assists because it's not using the original system. The Switch, while developed later, was also developed to work the same way as the WiiU.

WiiU = original
Switch = original
CEMU = bootleg
>>
>>384592367
Yeah I know it had those but the game was still open-ended in its design. It was the later games which cemented the metroid style of exploration barriers with item empowerment which became the defacto design of nearly every Zelda since.

The Wii U only has limited range in regards to its output.

The Switch has it's colour range set to limited as default. You have to manually change it to Full Range in the settings. The colours look immediately more vibrant. You'd be amazed at how many Switch owners don't even realise and are still playing in limited range.

>>384594057
I don't think you know what open-ended means. LOZ was very well designed from a progression stand point. Yes, you could explore most of the world, but it was pretty meaningless. Your goal was still to recover the triforce and defeat Ganon. The items you needed to go specific places had a logical order to them where one was used to unlock another, and you needed all triforces, the master sword and the silver arrows to beat the game, which is a very clear objective. Unlocking all of those items involved a fairly dictated path, and you could only do a couple dungeons out of sequence

Pretty much every Zelda game has played like this. BotW being the exception. Some have been even more rigid, but LOZ is the one that cemented the design.
>>

>>
>>384594375
Most TVs have black value adjustment that lets you compensate for limited RGB output. I can make the Wii U version look identical (at least in terms of color) to the Switch version on my TV, even when the Switch version is set to full RGB

And yes, even on full RGB, cloudy weather STILL makes the game look washed out. It's just how they designed it. If your game doesn't look washed out during cloudy weather, your TV is improperly calibrated and you're probably getting oversaturation and/or crushed blacks
>>

You haven't even pointed out what was wrong in that screenshot. I've looked everywhere for "leaf jaggies" and I don't see any

Cemu blows the Switch and native Wii U games away at least in terms of screenshots. It's less stable and the framerate isn't as good, and I'd never actually play the game there (maybe in another year), but damn does it make great screenshots that make the "real" games look like the cheap bootlegs.

There you go as to why it's inferior along with the looks.

If you understood anything about game design you would know how wrong you were. But you don't.

You desperately want to deny the reality that BotW was desinged with the NES original in mind. Because, again, you understand nothing about game design. Oh well.

You can do the opposite in cold regions. Icy chilled food has it's own unique benefits.

You keep saying "you don't understand" when the item progression in the original game is easily demonstrable

Your argument is effectively "No you're wrong" and I've grown tired of "debating" which such an idiot. Replay the original or get a better trolling technique

>it's inferior along with the looks.
I'll give you one but not the other
Cemu takes better screenshots. If you disagree you're just a shitposter

The words of a man who is defeated. The bootleg version of screenshots are still inferior. I guess the only advantage it would have is it's much easier to touch those screenshots up in photoshop to make them look presentable.

You're wrong.

Literally.

No. They control perfectly. Best horses in a game ever.

Chilled Food is basically worthless.

Can't eat it while buffed without replacing your buff with a meaning level 1 warmth protection with less than 2 minutes duration.

You don't understand ENGLISH let alone game design. Here is my original post:
>>384594057
>It was the later games which CEMENTED the metroid style of exploration barriers with item empowerment which became the defacto design of nearly every Zelda since.

Just because the original had a couple of instances of item requirement does not negate the open-ended non-linear exploration which is lacking in subsequent Zelda titles. Later titles CEMENTED the reliance on item empowerment as a dictation of how the gameworld is designed as a series sequential barriers of exploration empowerment - from the dungeons to the overworld.
>>

Later games simply became more linear. I completely agree with this. It has nothing to do with item progression, that was present from the beginning, and removed from BotW as you're given every tool you need at the very beginning.
>>
>>384598286
Yeah but item requirement was never the focus of the original Zelda. It more like just another tool you collected. Later Zelda games were built around the idea of item acquisition.

BotW gives the player everything the need right off the bat so they have everything they need to explore the world without boundaries. BotW is an experiment for Nintendo. It does what it tries to do very very well but they can never satisfy everyone.

Will soon be buying a Switch just to play this (amongst other games for the system of course). Is it worth getting the pro controller?
