Pretty much every game? In fact having a fully 3D rotating planet is considered a gimmick, look at Mario Galaxy

>I want to believe
According to flat earth theory there is no sunlight beyond the edge of earth, thus the farther you go out the more you are immersed in pure darkness and absolute zero temperatures. So the theoretical "outside" of flat earth is even less accessible than the deep sea or other galaxies
>>
>>384549346
It's generally accepted that the planet Elder Scrolls takes place in is flat
>>
>>384550967
The fuck lore have you been reading? Even a cursory glance at a single google would tell you that Nirn is a spherical planet like any other, never once has it been stated that Nirn is 'flat' in any of the games or novels.

Admit it OP, what you really want to do is start a thread where people argue if flat earth is a viable theory in real life.
>>
>>384551952
how exactly would a flat earth theory be 'viable' in real life lmao, i mean i guess its viable if you just disregard literally all natural laws of physics, nature, and observations of the world.

but if you do that literally anything you can imagine is viable, and you may also be schizophrenic

I found a non-ironic flat Earth discussion group awhile back, and it is deeply entertaining

I really want to run my next d&d game as a flat Earth setting where the jews are keeping are the poor folk inside the first ice wall to keep all the jewels for themselves.
>>
>>384554254
Just wanted to clarify, I saw this image posted alongside a post saying the "global elites" are herding us all in the middle, and described the outside world as being "full of jewels." No further description, he didn't describe it as being bountiful or fertile, but specifically full of jewels. I found that really amusing.

Most arguments I've seen comes down to these two categories which are impossible to argue against.

-You can't believe anything unless you've personally seen it yourself. All images of the curvature of the earth are fakes, all scientific evidence is misdirection, all historical accounts are fabricated. If someone has seen evidence of the earth being wrong, they're mistaken or a shill.

-God exists. The world operates in a completely batshit insane nonsensical way because God is personally manipulating everything that makes up our world. The Earth is flat while everything else is a sphere because Earth is unique. Objects fall down because God personally pushes down everything that goes up. We cannot see the sun at all times because God obscures it to gives us a perfect day/night cycle. All attempts to explain the phenomenon on earth is lies by atheist illuminati to turn us away from the light of God by making the miracle of Earth appear mundane.

They are vibrations provoked by those planet's atmospheres, and then transformed into sounds, since, as you know, sounds are just vibrations in our ears.
You can't record sound in space, but you can record those vibrations.

There are no sounds in vacuums because sound needs to interact with particles, make them vibrate to and reach your ear.
On earth, there's millions of them per square meter.
In solar system space, there's barely 10 particles per square meter, and in intergalactic space, there's an average of one.

But that doesn't mean you can't detect vibrations, and translate them into sound.

Those are built taking into count Earth's circumpherence.
Even the much shorter Verrazano-Narrows bridge of New York was built taking into count Earth's circumpherence.
Because of the height of the towers, about 200m and their distance apart, 1.2km , the curvature of the Earth's surface had to be taken into account when designing the bridge he towers are 41mm farther apart at their tops than at their bases, so they are not parallel.

the government supposedly is covering up the fact that the earth is flat. but that means that anybody who could ever experience evidence against the flat earth must be kept in the know. every official, pilot, or navigator on any ship or plane that has extensive flights must also be in on the secret. but what is the point in keeping the secret? what does the government (or anybody) have to gain by saying "the earth isn't flat lol"

I know very well that eventually the local galactic group will be the only observable universe we have, which will collapse into a galaxy, and eventually all stars will turn dark.
Then again, we know VERY little about entropy, so little, that the only theories we have are from 150 years ago.
Don't even remotely think we know accurately what will happen in the future.
Remember one of the Wright brothers said that it would take humanity up to 10 million years to build a plane that could cross the atlantic, and then 70 years later, not only we had the SR-71, breaking several times the sound barrier, but we got to the moon.
Who knows what we will know in 70 years, who knows what in 1000.

See, you don't need to indoctrinate every single pilot/navigator if you teach every single child from birth about "gravity' and other such things. A pilot isn't going to question why they need to over-correct their paths if everyone on earth is fed a fake map, and all navigation systems use this same fake map, etc.

Also, indoctrinate that the north and south poles are wastelands of death and that oceans are impossibly huge so no one dares explore themselves, etc.

Right now we live in the star-making era, a range of time that started a little while ago, is now 14,000,000,000 years young and will last for an estimated grand 100,000,000,000,000 years.

If we were to use a measuring tape for showing just how far into this glorious era we are, 14 billion years would be a single millimeter (where we are now) and the entire length would be 7.25 meters long, or 7250 millimeters. Great stuff.

But after this era things only go downhill, there is now no new star formation taking place unless it's an exceedingly rare circumstance. The entire universe is now a very dark and cold place. This is called the degenerate era, because there are only degenerate materials left over from the dead husks of stars such as brown dwarfs, neutron stars, white dwarfs and black holes.

Sometimes a few remnants will hit eachother and go supernova, causing the darkness of this era to dissipate for a few -weeks- at a time. Using the measuring tape comparison earlier, with 1mm being where we are now and 7.25 meters being the entire length of the previous era, this era will supposedly last for a total of 73 billion light years in length, on a measuring tape.

This era is followed by a yet even more long dark and desolate era, the black hole era.

And then beyond that the True "Dark Era" begins.

Pic related is Alpha Centauri, the closest star to us.
It's 4 light years away.
A light year is the distance light travels in an entire year, and light travels at 300.000km a second.
To put that in perspective, a photon, in one second, could go around the Earth 7.5 times.
It could get to the moon in less than a second.
Yet, it would take it four years to get to that star.

Yes, but not in any way that effects day to day life. What Newton was based his theory on was correct; which is that things with mass fall towards each other. Enstien just had this mind blowing idea that 'wait you can just say that the objects are motionless and everything is moving realtive to them. and look, I can just rewrite newton's equations to show that this still gives me the same predictions' what's important about is version is that he considered that you can't do this funny trick when light is involved because it travels at a FIXED rate. so you cant say the feather is motionless and light relative to it is traveling lightspeed + 9m/s. So he he basically had to come up with a workaround. We don't really use the workaround in day to day life because using his modified equation changes the results you get by REALLY small amounts. Still essential for big problems though.

"It's not my fault I'm unhappy, it's because the jewish illuminati freemasons are using chemtrails, vaccines and fluoride in the water to prevent me to reach my full potential".

There's also a big overlap with deeply religious people because it's probably easier to accept this nonsense if you've been told since you're a kid that Moses split the red sea and Noah put a pair of each animal on an arch he built and the Earth is a few thousand year old and fossils are a trick of the devil.

In case you're serious the map projection in the bottom picture makes no sense. Flat projections distort the map so that distances further away from the equator look bigger than they are, if you look at both trajectories in the top map they're roughly at equal distances on either side of the equator.

It's also generally a bad idea to compare flight times as a precise estimate of distance because winds and flight paths make them vary.

Not really. It's more due to gravity and the Earth's spherical shape. Water wants to settle down as close as possible to the Earth's center of gravity (the "bottom" of the tank) and thus evens out around the Earth to compensate. It wouldn't be able to be flat since the flat surface would collapse.

Earth is huge, its curvature is hard to notice at small scales. Across small distances you can consider gravity to be a field always pointing at the same direction. At larger scales however it's no longer negligible and if that aquarium was kilometers (or miles, to use God units) wide you'd start noticing the curvature.

It's like the sun rays, since the sun is so far away they look parallel on earth, the shadows appear to all point at the same direction, however at huge scales it's obviously no longer true and the shadows would all "point" away from the sun's position. You can test this effect by using a simple lamp and a few objects, the further away you place the lamp the more the shadows will look parallel.

To get back to the gravity thing, the earth radius is about 6Mm while the aquarium looks to be less than 2m wide. If my maths are correct that means that the angle between the verticals (direction of gravity) on either side of the aquarium is about 0.0000003 degrees.

I don't think the Earth is flat but this image fucked me up and no one gave any explanation in the thread where I saw it posted. Is the answer that 24 hours isn't how long it takes for the Earth to make a full rotation but actually how long it takes for the sun to reach the same part of the sky every day?

Except, you moron, that it's easy to see who the Earth is round. Have you ever seen a ship arrive from the horizon? If the Earth was flat, the ship would arrive in a 90º degree angle - instead you see it arriving normally and facing you.

What the fuck is wrong with people?
>>
>>384569141
there's a difference between a sidereal and solar day if that's what you're talking about
>>
>>384569614
Anon....................
You're the retarded one. Have YOU ever seen a ship arrive from the horizon?
Notice how the ship can move at a constant rate when an even force is applied. If the earth was round, she ship would be fighting it's way "upward" or "downward" at an accelerating rate.
Why would the ship suddenly turn 90 degrees while coming towards you, THAT makes no sense!

That's correct, a solar day is not the time it takes for the earth to do a full 360 degrees rotation but rather a little more (about one degree) to "catch up" with the sun's relative position: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_time

>>384566247

I just realized that my result was in radians, not degrees (duh), it's closer to 0.0002 degrees.

>While spinning on its own axis the earth also orbits the sun, taking one year to make one lap.

>In fig 1 it is noon for an observer at the point indicated by the red dot - the sun is directly in front.

>In figure 2 the earth has made one complete revolution and has progressed fractionally along its orbital path.

>In this diagram it might appear that the sun is directly in front once more; i.e. that the next noon has been reached. However, if we consider situation in Fig 3 it is apparent that although the earth has made ninety complete revolutions it still needs to make a further 1/4 turn until noon.

>This illustrates the fact that one revolution of the earth does not bring it to the next noon - it needs to rotate a fraction more. This takes approximately four minutes which means that a solar day is actually about four minutes longer than a Sidereal day. In one year these minutes add up about one day which is why there are 365.25 Solar days in a year but 366.25 Sidereal days.

1 year = 12 months
1 day = 24 hours
12 months / 2 = 6 months which is coincidentally the difference between the Summer and Winter Solstice.
24 hours / 2 = 12 hours
The reason our clocks don't have to be changed by a full 12 hours between Solstices is because it already does so.

>Have YOU ever seen a ship arrive from the horizon?
I'm the navy of my country you moron
>Notice how the ship can move at a constant rate when an even force is applied.
Wow, it's almost like the ship has no engine.
>why would the ship suddenly turn 90 degrees while coming towards you, THAT makes no sense!
ships disappear hull first when they sail over the horizon, Earth casts a round shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse, and different constellations are visible at different latitudes.

But I'm clearly talking to a moron.

I used to have this children's activity book that had a page on how to explain to ealry explorer's that the earth is round.
Basically you had to show him a boat sailing into the distance and watch it disappear over the horizon.
