doom mp actually is the better choice due to superior netcode and superior engine. even with loadouts, DOOM mp was still good if you knew what modes to play. for true arena fans looking for an authentic arena experience, neither DOOM 2016 or quake champions are good options and both suffer from serious flaws. now after this 6.66 update though, DOOM mp probably isn't worth playing because everyone can see powerup timers all the time now, the powerups get called out by the announcer, the powerup rotation is now more random, more CoD perk nonsense, etc.

I 100%d singleplayer, but only played MP on the first beta and remember there was a gun that wasn't in single. Some kind of sniper rifle which sucked as a sniper rifle, but was really great without the scope.

Some upgrades from SP are standard for the MP weapons as alt fires. Like the rocket launcher remote detonation, or the combat shotgun pop rocket. you don't have to unlock the alt fires and you can't change the alt fires either
