I agree with your sentiment, and i also like the classic tankcontrols, management, resources, puzzle/metroid style gameplay of the originals a lot too. I still think Re4 is a very fun and interesting game for a variety of reasons.

Wether Re4 going off da rails was a good thing in the long run is up for debate, but i'm glad for the playthroughs i had with it. I think the first game is just as memorable as 4 and enjoyed both games for some different reasons.

The levels are designed so that there's several entrances to each room, finding a wall like that is rather rare. That's not mentioning the more dangerous enemies and ranged weapons, you're better off running out in the open for crowd control.
