How do we fix JRPGs?
>Gameplay
Do we change it from turn based to action? P5 proved that turnbased is fine
>Story
Most of the stories are pretty much the same
>Characters
We went from weeb shit to weeb shit, so no changes needed here
>Music
I think this took a dive. But there's still a lot of bright spots left.
You fooled me for a nanosecond.
Stop with the generic anime designs, its really starting to get old honestly.
>>384532898
>objectively superior artists like Amano see less exposure and work because their work is not mass-appealing
That right there is the real problem.
>>384532898
This picture is superb bait. Very well played OP.
>>384535025
There has always been generic anime designs.
>>384535112
C'mon now. People knew of his work because of Final Fantasy, not the other way around.
>>384535821
Not so fucking much of them
>>384535821
I should be more specific, the "modern" anime designs are starting to get old. The ones you see in the more recent JRPGs like XBC2 are starting to grate on me, I don't expect every game to shit out new unique designs but there has to be literally any other style they can use instead of the moeblob one.
>>384535278
I remember when "what the fuck happened" images were used unironically, thank god hipsters lost and it's now just a meme
>JRPGs literally 10 days from now

I personally want to see more "novel" battle systems like Bravely Default. I put novel in quotes because I'm sure there was some game out there that did it first, but you know what I mean.
>>384536007
Every single game was generic anime design. Look at shit like Lunar. That was then generic look in the 90's
they just need to fix the gameplay. I always thought I liked jrpgs, but I realized I don't actually like playing most of them. it's not a matter of real time or turn based, the whole idea of running through a maze and killing random wildlife always gets stale way before the game lets you stop doing it, especially when there's mechanics to artificially extend playtime.
>>384536007
Generic anime designs have always been the common go-to for JRPGs for decades.
You should see all of the shitty shovelware waifubait JRPGs on the PC Engine and PC 98 that all fucking look the same between 1990-1995.
>>384536692
>jrpg developer realize combats are boring as fuck
>instead of fixing it just make a fast forward option
>>384536825
>>384532898
>>384532898
Why are 999/1000 JRPG threads this type of nonsense, we can't "fix" anything and it's not like JRPGs as a genre need fixing anyway. Why can't we just have a nice comfy JRPG discussion thread, it always has to be about how the JRPG genre is somehow bad even though it's a pretty meaningless genre classification that describes little about the games.
By the way, I haven't played FFF but I like Tsunako's art a lot more than Amano's.
>>384537136
>Assaultl
>:)
>>384537196
It's a poorly done translation desu
>>384536018
XBC2 is not even remotely moeblob. This is a moeblob.
>>384537118
>I like Tsunako's art a lot more than Amano's.
I don't even like Amano's art but I still think your taste is shit.
>>384537085
>not using the better image
>>384537346
A lot of the bottom games are like 10 years old. I honestly think we've had a drought compared to the late 90s early 2000s.
>>384537136
nu-anime sucks
>>384537590
The power of oldschool JRPGs
>>384536429
>Lunar.
Is that game any good? Some people treat it like some sort of holy grail and it looks rather bland.
>>384532898
>Gameplay
introduce better action hybrid gameplay, and/or make strategic positioning important (and do it in the game world level for god's sake - no more instances).
>Story
More subtle morality instead of really evil guys who are evil because bad guy.
>Characters
I like them.
>Music
Eh, it's fine, sometimes it's amazing. One thing I wish would die is the "funny situation" music, but that's more a problem with anime.
>>384537196
>not grinding until you can use assault2
>>384538164
Top 10 strongest JRPG, anon.
>>384532898
You see more of the right because of consumers.
>>384537590
>The story follows Mink, a half human/half dragon teenage girl on a quest for a potion which will turn her into a full human so that she can win the love of the legendary dragon slayer Dick Saucer.
>>384538048
>JRPGs circa 1992
Anybody who complains about JRPGs being too anime/moe today really don't know what they're talking about.
>>384538591
This looks cool.
>>384538048
CERO was a mistake.
JRPGs have always been shit. You just didn't release it when you were younger.
Maybe have more mature protagonists in their games, preferably somewhere in their 20s.
>>384539158
They tried that. It failed.
>>384532898
tiara a shit. eryn was better fang was best boy
>>384539158
The guy in the OP is 20.
>>384539863
Thanks for stating the obvious
>>384532898
Because thats the type of shit jrpg's you've been playing
>>384538587
That's fucked up.
>>384532898
I think they just need a little more production value and money. And to stop making games literally open world. As in there's nothing but a huge, empty field.
>>384532898
But FFF had great music
>>384541096
Japan thinks that's what open world means. In their defense, the western industry doesn't really do anything with "Open World" besides make big empty lots so they're not showing them anything much different. It's time for the open world meme to get put to bed for awhile, I think it was MMORPGs that really helped make people expect big huge areas that end up having drearily boring fetch quests. I say make good, tight areas instead of the fucking Barrens.
>>384532898
FF XV would have been better with turn based combat. Prove me wrong.
PRO TIP YOU CAN'T

It was fine as is, better action combat would have been good. Good turn based would have been good.
Why do so many turn based fans loathe action combat? Both are fine when done well.
>>384545182
because the odds of a dev fucking up turn based combat are smaller than a dev actually pulling off the miracle that is good action combat
>>384536112
>Subpar sameface; 11
no
>>384545325
I dunno about that. Many of my favourite games have action combat. Of course I can say the same about turn based. But it's also easy for turn based games to devolve into "hold down confirm on attack between bosses".
True saviour of Jrpg
>>384545479
>But it's also easy for turn based games to devolve into "hold down confirm on attack between bosses".
that's literally what FF XV was, except it looked and played awful. it was literally "hold button to continuously attack"
>>384545913
I know. That's also what most of the series is though so I try not to be too harsh on it.
