Call me a fucking shill but this game is fucking great--well worth the little money I paid for it.
>>
Yeah, it's pretty good.
>>
Better than Ori, IMO. Much meatier and no weird difficulty spikes.
>>
No, you're pretty much right, it was pretty good. Not the second coming of fucking Christ, but good.
>>
>>384522898
You're a fucking shill. You're not discussing the game. All you're doing is mentioning the game. For no reason. All you want to do is tell people that you paid for it and you're happy; like that is supposed to fucking mean anything to me. Like your opinion means anything to me.

I loved it. I think i'm about 2/3 of the way through but i'm waitinf for the dlc to drop before I complete it.

when is it releasing anyway? supposed to be this month?

Greenpath or City of Tears.
Love green vegetation areas and dark rainy areas.
Also it kinda reminds me of Burmecia, one of my most favorite scenery in vidya
>>

Yeah, it's this month.
Fuck. That's another 30 hours down the drain. I wonder if they'll change the order in which you play areas and get powerups.

Got confirmed for August 3rd, actually.

It's almost as if he wants to open a thread with something positive, so that people can discuss the game.
After all, that's what OPs are for Other than sucking dicks

But... I'm going to be on vacation!
And if I weren't on vacation, I'd probably be right in the middle of Sundered!
>>
>>384527215
That's what generals are for. Bringing up the game for the sake of it is what shills do. If you have nothing specific in mind then you shouldn't be making a fucking thread.

Does it ever occur to you that some people on this board actually like video games? Maybe he just thinks it's a fun game and wants to discuss it.
HK doesn't have a nearly big enough playerbase to make a general, and there aren't that many threads about it here nowadays.

Deepnest

No other area in any 2D or platformer game made me feel this anxious, especially when visiting it straight after the Mantis Lords
>>
>>384527369
If you think that's what generals are for you didn't see how things were before generals got their own board.
>>
Would I like this game if I mostly hate platformers but loved Ori (cute/beautiful, good soundtrack, responsive controls and good freedom of movement, no shitty ass jumps to something out of screen with extreme precision needed but still challenging, very nice moments like the ginso tree escape I just couldn't get enraged at because of how well-executed it felt)?
>>
>>384528272
Well, Ori was a pure platformer pretty much. The game was all about jumping and arcobatics ("platforming"), where action took a back seat and was mainly an afterthought way to handle character progression

Hollow Knight has a good deal of mobility options but they take longer to unlock, so you might feel very limited movement-wise for the first few hours, and it's much more focused on action. No more auto-target blob that fights for you. You have to kill things with your sword.
>>
>>384528272
It's far harder than Ori and like three times as long for a regular playthrough

I would say you'd likely hate it. Ori only has some aspects of a Metroidvania, while this is a Metroidvania game through and through

Probably. Most of the hardest stuff is optional end-game content.

The difficulty curve is well-planned. It start out very easy and slowly builds up in difficulty. Overall, I still thought it was a little too easy (excepting the end-game stuff like Trial of Fools and White Palace).

story is too hard to follow. only tiny bits and pieces are scattered everywhere, cryptic shit is said early on that only makes sense in hindsight, by the time I got to the end and fought some shiny moth bitch I had no idea who I was fighting or why

the game is all about exploration, but it doesn't let you buy maps out of order, which is counter-intuitive to the whole exploration aspect of the game. So despite supposedly being a non-linear game, you end up having to guess where the game wants you to go in a linear fashion

the bossfights were fun though
>>
>>384528272
I played Ori first and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I played HK and fucking fell straight in love with it.
Ori is a bit more of a cinematic journey, while Hollow Knight is much more like an old-school metroidvania. The feels won't blow you away like they did with Ori, but the game as a whole plays and controls a lot tighter and less floaty.

It has much more focus on exploration, and using your noggin to figure out where to go next, getting new movement abilities to unlock new locations.
>>
>>384522898

I'm not BAD at platformers, they just make me really mad. Watching me play through Super Meat Boy was a friend of mine's favorite past-time because I got stuck very often compared to most other platformers I played.
Fighting I can do, I'm just worried about the platforming really.

city of tears was really beautiful and fun to explore, fungal wastes had interesting enemies and good music
>>
>>384528957
If you use the dreamnail on random enemies, you can kinda figure out a lot of the basic outlines of the story, like
>Bright light=bad
>Abyss=Good(or at least neutral)
>King is long gone
>Everything is literally fucked by bright light
>>384529161
The platforming in this game is honestly not that hard, nowhere NEAR as hard as SMB. Except for one of the late optional areas that is required to get the true ending

Godspeed.
>>
>>384528216
My experience was more jarring that anything else, I fell down the trap entrance while having a nice comfy time in the fungal wastes

Greenpath or City of Tears. Both of them hit the right strings with making me realize just how much I love this game.
>>
Why did the devs decide to block off random pathways later in the game? I can't use the main gates of the City of Tears anymore, and a number of passages in the Crossroads become impassable after the infection spreads. I could understand if this was needed to corral the player into a specific place or to keep them out of a place, but they don't actually do that. I can still go anywhere I want, it's just less convenient.
>>
>>384526182
Kingdom's Edge, simply for that moment when you reach it, and the musci kicks in for the first time
Honorable mentions goes to The Abyss, because I love the "dug too deep" vibe too, and because No cost too great
>>
>>384529751
The city of tears is supposed to be a one way passage, for lore reasons.
Infected Crossroads is just fucking stupid though.

>>
>>384530418
Not him but I'm playing through it first time right now, and it's pretty annoying to have to find the map guy in each level before you can see the map at all. Also I thought the whole point of buying stuff from his wife was so you could make your own map and he would become obsolete but your still forced to have no map until you find him. Fun game though
>>
>>384531008
I have never shared this point of view. I think the lack of a map when you enter a new area makes for more fun exploration. You aren't immediately handed every room you enter. Makes the effort of having to remember rooms until you find the map guy much more satisfying.
>>
>>384531008
Im pretty sure the paper trail that leads towards him can be found as soon as you enter the new area.

>>384531008

I remember thinking the wife's items would let me mark the map too. I think it's worded that way, but "you" means the character not the player.

Her items are still useful tho, as they automatically mark the map with most of the important points.

And I liked finding Conifer. First time entering an area really feels unknown, desperate search for him, hearing his humming always gets me excited, the map he gives isn't fully filled out (but automatically includes places you've already been).
Gives the benefits of the map while keeping an air of mystery and providing an exciting reward.
>>
>>384530418
I've gone through areas dozens of times with no map guy in sight, only to come back later after a bossfight and then suddenly he's there

it's annoying as fuck

>>384531538
I noticed it as soon as I met him in front of the library. He said the place was calling him so it just clicked at that point.
>>
>>384531582
What?

I don't even know how this is possible.

What areas/bosses. How far into it are you? Cornifer was always so easy to find. There's always papers every room nearby and you can hear him from far away. Plus, he's usually near the entrance.

In truly baffled
>>
>>384531671

It's a cool game with a lot of fun bits but
>Collision damage, even on fucking fleeing enemies
>Tons of backtracking
>Spikes reset where you are in the room, with the resets often being inconsistent
>Bosses have no health bar
>Enemies hitting you damages you, but that can make you fall into spikes, which is a total shit show

Just did the part where you have to nail-bounce off of the Gorepedes over a huge area of spikes. Every time you hit a spike, you have to restart the entire bit despite there being a moment of respite in the middle of it.

Also annoying is that you can upgrade your weapon a lot, but it's easy to end up on bosses with less skills or upgrades than you should, leading to situations where you have to hit the boss for what feels like hours. Not having health bars makes this issue bigger than it should be because I have no real register of how 'well' I am doing against a boss. I've spent upwards of an hour fighting bosses like Hornet, Mawlek, and Mantis Lords because I was either ill-prepared or had no way to measure how well I was doing.

>Fighting Hornet
>Knock her down
>"Oh! Like every other video game, and even like earlier in this one, I only have to knock her down three times!"
>Knock her down a fourth time, she gets back up
>mfw
>>
>>384532196
Oh yeah. Very much so. I think there was a vote on Reddit where it was voted as the hardest boss in the game, but I'd say some of the dream bosses are probably harder because you probably won't have all the upgrades by then.

Bug-Core?
>>
all indie games are shit and this has never been wrong.

>>384526182
Definitely City of Tears for me. Finally making it to the heart of Hollownest, hearing the rain outside, meeting Quirrel on the bench, and then encountering Hornet at the Hollow Knight statue just really struck a chord with me.

Also Greenpath and the Ancient Basin/the Abyss. The former because I had already gotten lost in the Forgotten Crossroads for hours and the change in scenery made me realize just how vast the game would be. The latter because I find the protagonist and Vessels in general to be very interesting.
