Someone at GameFAQs put it very well when he said that dying forgotten is exactly what Kiefer deserved. I hope that Lila died in childbirth and that he spent the majority of his life left all alone in the world as karma for abandoning all of his so-called loved ones.
>>
You were just a means to an end. Kiefer only saw his friends as tools to alleviate his boredom.
>>
>When you talk to his sister upon arriving back to the present after he leaves
>>
>>384504418
I don't even play dragon quest and this pisses me off.
>>
>>384506505
I first played the PS1 version when I was 15, and I was kind of sad but didn't think too much of it. The 3DS version hit a lot closer to home since I was ghosted by a couple of close friends a few years before its release and so Kiefer's actions hit a nerve that didn't exist before.
>>
I don't see why this was such a big deal.
>>
>>384507928
He left his dad and sister forever without saying goodbye to them, literally never seeing them again for the rest of their lives, and for a girl he knew a grand total of one day at that
Definitely very shitty of him
>>
>>384508115
I guess I get the logic but it just doesn't feel like a big deal.

>play game
>he is suprisingly chill
>Turns out he is just a guy who wants to go on adventures and shit with his bro.
>okay I am totally down with that going on cool adventures and broing it up with my boy kiefer.
>the moment some gypsy slut.comes in he just fucking leaves forever and just leaves you.with Maribel who's whole schtick is that she constantly just bitches about how much of pathetic dumbass piece of shit I am.
Whatever I never liked you in the first place.
>>
>>384508448
Maybe you're just an asocial person who doesn't care about people that much
>>
I don't really remember since the game is fucking 500 hours long, but does he leave before or after you unlock the job system?
>>
>>384508797
Pretty sure the roamer stuff is right before job slave island.
>>
>>384508797
The wanderer's island is the one right before alltrades island.

>>384508708
I guess. I mean he is a character in a video game.
>>
>>384508797
Immediately before. The Roamers Camp is the island that you visit directly before Dharma Temple.
Good job abandoning your friends right before their darkest hour, you fuck
>>
>>384508602
Yeah I thought he was going to be a sorta of bully or dick but I was surprised when he turned out to be really cool. The game even counted him as pure of heart which surprised me.
>>
>>384508945
>I guess. I mean he is a character in a video game.

That thread of logic is perfectly fine. Just don't defend people in real life if they do the same thing. Abandoning loved ones in a way that denies them from ever having closure is a terrible thing.
>>
>>384508998
What's the darkest hour? When they get their skills stolen?

I always thought that was so stupid since we didn't even have any skills to begin with, save for maribel. Ruff had some shit that literally dealt less damage than a regular attack so it was useless, and hero literally had 0.

Basically I lost fucking nothing. It's the end of times!
>>
>>384509257
The Heal spell was a big deal in the PS1 version. The Dharma Temple area was toned down a lot in the 3DS remake, but it was brutal (almost stupidly so) in the original.
>>
Maribel's dad just collapsed. What am I at, like 50% of the game?
>>
I want to know who thought making DQVII as big as it was was a smart idea.

Big as an ocean, deep as a puddle. At least 8 and 9 were great.
>>
>>384509606
Probably closer to 70-75.
>>
>>384509606
When she leaves your party?

Best fucking make sure you got all the key items off of her.
>>
>>384509665

>>
>>384509161
Choosing to stay there is fine, but he literally had a portal that could be used at will that brought him to a temple that was like 10 minutes away from the castle where his family lives.

It's fucking obvious that the only reason he didn't go visit them to tell the news in person and then didn't visit them with a certain frequency is because he is a character in a video game.
>>
>>384509778
You have no idea how much I wish I could just shut out the outside world and spend 3 days playing and grinding old DQ games

Also Rocket Slime

Love me some Rocket Slime
>>

>>
>>384509937
They roam though, it's possible they never went there again.
>>
>>384510183
Not sure. I just remember her leaving with some key item I needed a couple of hours later and being fucked. This was on the PS1 version.
>>
>>384510359
I think the key item might have just gone to the vault or something, anon-kun. That seems like way too obvious of an oversight for a 2000 RPG.
>>
>>384510520
What's the vault?
>>
>>384510586
It's something that was introduced in Dragon Quest 3 or so, I think, where you can store items to get them out of your inventory without throwing them away.
>>
>>384510779
What about the infinite bag you have?
>>
>>384510867
http://dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/Vault

Oops. Yeah, the vault was removed after Dragon Quest 5 because the bag was introduced.
>>
>>384504418
That part ruined the game for me. He was the only character I liked. The only one that made the MC feel like more than just a blank slate. The reason for leaving was so dumb.

He hated his life and wanted to have an adventure? Well, what were we doing throughout the game up to that point? Traveling around restoring islands wasn't good enough but wandering around in the forest is? IIRC, the game was starting to hint that there was some big bad causing the troubles with the islands and he just leaves his friend to deal with it. He leaves his friend and family for some woman he doesn't know. That was such a ridiculous part in the game. I hated it so much.
>>
>guy wants to find a place in the world where he feels like he belongs
>finds it

It hurts a lot but you can't really blame him. And its not like he flat out abandons you. He gives everything he had back to you and leaves a nice message for you in the ending. Also whoever told me/started the rumor that he rejoins postgame in the remake is a dick. That woulda been pretty cool,

The only actual problem here is that there's this obnoxious gap of time where you lack a 4th party member and all your job grinding feels somewhat inefficient. That and he's the best character personality-wise and everyone afterwards feels like a bit of a downgrade.
>>
>>384511496
Sounds like you are too afraid to follow your heart despite the consequences and you resent him for having achieved true happiness.

It's not too late to change career if that's what this is about.
>>
>>384504418
most disappointing of all is that in the remake they don't let him rejoin your party or anything
>>
>>384512068
I do think there's a bonus tablet where you get to see Kiefer again, though you don't interact with him personally. Still a huge change from the PS1 version, where you never see him again.

I'M A PS1 CUTSCENE

HELP
>>
I really don't know how that monster village thing is supposed to work and what is its role in the game.
>>
I told him I understood his decision, but after I finished the game, he just seems like an asshole to me.

He never said goodbye to his father or sister, even if he was worried about them preventing him from leaving, he at least could have left a note, it's strange to me he didn't include anything to them in the note he gave you.

Another thing that kinda pissed me off was how he just threw the responsibility of saving the world on you like it was nothing after he was one who started the whole adventure.
>>
>>384512754
The last one is a good point I'd never considered myself. Keifer a shit.

>>384512454

I remember DQ7's cutscenes as being kind of bad but not that ghoulish
It's been a long time though, I got DQ7 for my birthday in 2002 a few weeks before beginning high school.

This guy's 3d effect was unsettling. It's like his snake tongue was coming out of the screen and it legit made me uncomfortable while choosing moves and shit.

Too bad he lasted like 2 turns.

I may be wrong, but aren't there 2 graves in the future that suggest that he cucked the dancer's husband and married the dancer?

Agreed though, Kiefer a worst

Honest question: does it matter? I get the feeling str doesn't actually affect the big hit moves you are gonna be using late game like gigaslash and blade of ultimate power. It also doesn't affect the big trash destroyers like scorch and thin air.
>>
>>384517904
Not that much, I still finished the game just fine. It just bothers me that I wasted one-time items on him.

She started off as a bitch but I can tell she really cares and doesn't want to hinder your goal.
>>
>>384515448
Unfortunately that's one of VII's most noticeable flaws, the difficulty is all over the place after Alltrades.
>>
>>384521160
All over the place? I don't know about the original but in the 3ds it's definitely NOT all over the place since it's always fucking ridiculously easy.
>>
>>384520507
100 percent true. I think it's a nice, cathartic addition.
>>
>>384521302
The 3DS version is definitely very, very easy. The original PS1 version was brutal just like DQ6 was (which 7 has a lot in common with, to the point where they kind of feel like sister games). Hell Cloud made me put down the game for about a year in the original.
>>
>>384521624
I wonder to what point those kind of complaints are actually valid since fanboys have this tendency of always complaining about the new every time in every video game franchise ever.
>>
>>384521302
>>384521624
It's relatively easy
The cloud boss probably took me like 30 retries
>>
The real bullshit thing about this game is not being able to get with Maribel
>>
>>384521963
They are definitely completely valid. I love the 3DS version, it's a beautiful and very fun game with a lot of improvements, but it's certainly less difficult than the PS1 version. I don't think it's easy to the point of being boring or completely lacking any teeth, though. The series probably peaks in difficulty with the Super Famicom DQ6, which I think is stupidly and unfairly hard at points.
>>
>>384522507
>The series probably peaks in difficulty with the Super Famicom DQ6
Of course it did. I can't wait for XI to release in 2 weeks so fanboys can complain about how casual and shit it is compared to the glory golden days.
>>
>Sands of Time actually lets you reset fights as much as you want, and can even undo ambushes
Madmen
>>
>>384523159
Are you talking to me or just in general? I said that Dragon Quest 6's difficulty was a flaw, not a strength. The battle against Mudo is absurd. Not to mention that the easiest Dragon Quest by far, 5, is an old one.
>>
>>384508602
Maribel by the end is more of a bro than Keifer ever was.
>>
I honestly couldn't believe it. And then Alltrades came and locked me out of all spells and abilities in a long-ass shitty arc, I almost dropped the game there.
>>
>>384523727
Yeah that part is notoriously hard, it's pretty much the "causal filter"
>>
>>384523727
That fucking part is just "SPAM A/X UNTIL IT DIES"
>>
>>384523727
>>384523827
Why would anyone drop or come close to dropping when it's clear the game is finally about to give you something to make battles interesting?

I mean lets be honest before jobs the combat was basically a normal attack fest. Just repeat attack attack attack until things die. If anything people should be more attached to the game due to the prospect of finally doing getting jobs.
>>
>>384523913
>That fucking part is just "SPAM A/X UNTIL IT DIES"
The whole game to that point was just that. Maribel had a spell or two that you didn't really use much because of low MP, Ruff had some skills that amazingly did less damage than a normal attack so you never used and hero literally had nothing.
>>
>>384504418
How many generations of royal inbreeding do you think it took to produce Kiefer? He looks like a brit but uglier.
>>
>>384524439
you don't understand whay I said, atelast to choose a spell you have to press the directional/analog but this part was just Spam attack and kill it, not strategy involved whatsoever.
>>
>>384524309
I completely understand you but this part was realy frustrating for a lot of people, only being able to heal through herbs, your main hitting memeber leaving you and the fights getting harder lead to a lot of death and frustration, so it's no surprise that people would drop at that point.
>>
>>384524742
As opposed to before this part, where it was Spam attack and kill it on 2 characters out of 3, with the 3rd one being spam attack on most occasions due to MP limitations.
>>
>>384525092
>MP limitations.
Flame Slash BITCH.
>>
>>384525306
>Flame Slash
No sorry I have to follow my heart and abandon the party.
>>
>>384525576
Hence the point of this thread the chain of responses and the conclusion that Alltrades is a bitch with no depth even on the remake.
>>
>>384523159
>>384523340
Actually, here's my thoughts on the difficulty level of each game to clarify where I'm coming from.

Dragon Quest 1: This is probably the easiest game in the series. There was a limit to how difficult the fights could be made without making them impossible when they're all one-on-one. The game's reputation of being grindy is not exactly undeserved, but it seems worse than it is because there's so little else to do; DQ1 is one of the very few RPGs where you can max out in a reasonable timeframe given the low experience threshold of 65,535.
Dragon Quest 2: The game actually goes at a brisk pace and is very fair for the great majority of the game. The Cave to Rhone and Rhone itself sucks balls, but it's once again very easy to level grind. Rhone's battles give around 1000 to 1700 experience, which is about equivalent to 10,000 to 17,000 in later games given that the max experience is one million.
Dragon Quest 3: Pretty rough. 3-6 is the most brutal portion of the series, 5 aside.
Dragon Quest 4: I played through this a couple of months ago. The battles and monsters are fairly well-balanced, but the insane encounter rate of the NES games offsets this and makes the game harder than it should be.

Dragon Quest 5: Incredibly (almost boringly) easy. Regular monsters are weak and bosses go down quickly with Bikill.
Dragon Quest 6: Excessively difficult to the point where I found it more stressful than anything. Unless you get advanced equipment from the casino, Mudo is the closest thing the series has to a mandatory boss that is legitimately almost impossible (in the SFC version anyway, I don't know about the remakes).

Dragon Quest 7: The PS1 version probably strikes the perfect balance for me. It's not excessively easy like 1 or 5, but it's a much fairer challenge than what 3, 4, or 6 present.
Dragon Quest 8: I thought the bosses were pretty frustrating, and jerk the series back into the 'too hard' side of things again.
(DQ9 is easy, hit post limit)
>>
>>384525849
You are overlooking people complaining about getting their skills being stolen, which makes almost no difference especially since the one person with a reliable skill is no longer in the party.
