The MGS series in general always had this weird gender dichotomy thing going on. Pretty much in every game outside of 3 and MGR all the female characters really talk about is how awful and shitty all men are even though the women in MGS don't even do anything to advance the story. They're all either eye candy or just lame plot devices.

There's a pretty good chance that higher ranking officials go easier on female soldiers in comparison to the male ones.
