What were some games on the Wii that were almost completely ignored? Granted, not all so called sleeper hits were great games, but they were at least worth playing if not for the novelty.
Aside from Muramasa, which had an enhanced port on the Vita, the rest of these kind of disappeared.
>>
Excitebots was never sold in my Coubtry. Tpo sad. Excite Truck is one of the best wii game.
>>
>>384487552
Fragile dreams is very good,
>that cut scene with you meet the girl.
>>
>>384487742
I remember playing Excitetruck early on a friend's hacked Wii and loved it. Though, it was really shallow and lacked content. Excitebots was just straight up better in every way.
>That sense of speed
>Those insane jumps
It was pretty rad.
>>
>>384488110
Excite Truck has few content, but it's quality content.
>>
>>384487945
I never played that one, but it looks pretty neat. Is it a survival type game? Like, Silent Hill minus the horror aspect? Seemed pretty comfy and I was keeping my eyes on it, but it just fell off the map.
>>
>>384487552

whats the game on the top left?
>>
>>384488748
Rodea the Sky Soldier. There was a Wii U remake that came bundled with the original, but it was worse than the Wii game. Though, two for the price of one isn't a bad deal.
It's not really an excellent game by any means, but definitely interesting enough to be on that list.
>>
Fragile Dreams is special to me.

It's a generic JRPG, but the combat is at least okay. I wouldn't really put this in the same tier as say Pandora's Tower, but if you're really into JRPGs it's worth checking out.
Just make damn sure you get the undub version, because you don't want to deal with this: https://youtu.be/zygDzAkothQ

Pandora's Tower has really, really strong art direction and it translated pretty well into the in-game graphics. But, it was a Wii game so it still looked significantly worse than it could have.
This is one of those games I wish they'd remaster on the Wii U or even Switch, because the visuals deserve better.

Okami,

>>
Not baiting and not underaged, I legitimately enjoyed this game. Miles better than Secret Rings, They figured out a good control scheme with the nun-chuck to make it actually playable. The waggle-2-win thing DID work, so the game wasn't challenging, but you could get better at it and use it to built momentum by slashing through enemies, whereas most sonic games kill your momentum when you homing attack

The soundtrack was crush40 buttrock at its finest, the cutscene artstyle was fun, and the story didn't take itself seriously while still hamming it up like old times (knuckles and blaze both try to kill themselves in shame after losing to sonic)

I feel like if this had been a new Sega IP rather than a sonic game, it would show up on every "top 10 Wii Hidden Gems" list out there
>>
>>384488936
I second this. Rodea on the Wii is really, really good.
Also Little King's Story is one of my favourite games from the last years

I would say Dokapon Kingdom, but it's not technically a Wii game.

A game that should deserve better is this.
Puzzles aren't complicated nor the story is too engaging, yet it got the right atmosphere that got me hooked. Anyone should give it a try, it's also pretty short.

>>
>>384487552
Little King's Story was charming and fun. The Godfather Blackhand Edition was probably the best version of that game, and one of the games that used waggling right.
>>
>>384488371
Sort of like a comfy version of Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Biggest problem with the game though was the really bad combat, it was very clunky.
>>
>>384493983
I enjoyed it a lot. The writing is great, like throw your head back and guffaw funny. The music is all Erik Satie, Bach, Gershwin covers. The puzzles are not difficult, think school reading comp fill-in-the-blanks, and the player character calls it out. Lots of fourth wall breaking. The port looks like a Saturn game, which I have a fondness for. The ending only makes sense if you've played The Silver Case.

If any of this sounds appealing then you should absolutely play it.

Rodea the Sky Soldier. The Wii version was decent, but the Wii U one, which was a 3DS port was pretty shit.
Sin and Punishment was an N64 game I think. It eventually got released on the Wii VC though.

I liked the game and the final boss was pretty cool. Beat him and her like over 20 times because the cool qtes phases. It was 7/10 or a 6.8/10 in my book. No way is it a 3/10 as much as ign and adventure fags make it out to be. Kinda mad Sega gave up in making more the story book fantasy games. Not a fan of the color whisp games.

Interesting list. I would add Silent Hill Shattered Memories, not perfect by any means but I'm very fond of it.

Pandora's Tower was a bit overrated for me but maybe it's because so many friends told me how GOTY it was before I played it, so I had very high expectations. In the end it felt like a tryhard edgy game with some repetitive mechanics all over the different dungeons unfortunately. Still has a good atmosphere and a good progression feeling. The scenes with the girl tetsuo-morphing or eating the hearts were too cringy for my taste. Though very decent game overall.

Fragile Dreams is good but it's also one of these games were you end up extremely frustrated because you feel it could have been excellent with some more attention to details. With better fights mechanics and less rigid gameplay it could have been way better.

The Excite Truck game was very fun from what I remembered.

You can do Muramasa on Vita if you missed it on Wii, with Odin Sphere, and Dragon Crown. It was a very good and classic Vanillaware game. I really like these devs.

Sin & Punishment was excellent from what I remembered but for some reason I didn't finished it, not my type of game probably. Is it a Nintendo IP ? I think there's a trophy for this game in Smash...
>>
>>384492867
Oh yeah I remember it. Really liked the comfy atmosphere. But I was a bit disppointed by it because the first game had an experimental touch and some fantastic setting while this one was more "realistic"

>>
>>384501596
Shattered Memories looked fucking amazing, but unfortunately there really is not much to the game. It can be a bit spooky, but all of it rides on the excellent visuals. The gameplay is really shitty. I get that combat in survival horror should mostly be avoided, but removing it altogether also removes any tension from the encounters because first of all, you know you're supposed to run from them since that is the only option. There are no desperate struggles or worrying about resources. You just run. Secondly, there is no punishment for failing. You just restart.
If it didn't have the SH name, I probably would have held it in a more positive light.

SH:SM is the perfect example of a game having a great concept but then a shitty execution. My ideal survivor horror game is something kind of like it but better, with a psych profiling system that actually substantially changed the game and it also having good combat. It did have a good story though. Great music too.

Also, Sin & Punishment is a Nintendo IP, to the first poster.

>>384502113
>>384502906
I absolutely share your opinions, I'm also a huge Silent Hill fan but I wasn't hyped at all for this game, so that might be why I was less severe. Wouldn't go as far as saying that the gameplay is "shitty" but it could have indeed be way better if they added some more variety to it. The game was litterally split in two parts with runaway sequences and exploring sequences where you know nothing bad will hapen, so the game was kindda trapped in its own mechanic. It was saved by it's great visuals, nice narration and story, and from what I remember, excellent tracklist.

Though I think it took a really interesting approach depicting the city atmosphere which was great, like they make you feel that it was a real city before turnin into a ghost town. But yeah, you really have to take this game for what it is, and not for what you would expect from a classic SH game to appreciate it...

I admit I'm usually a more forgiving person when a series tries to do something new even if the result is flawed, than when they're using the same formula over and over again.

>>384499870
>Sin and Punishment 2 is one of the best despite also being ugly as all hell.

FFCC: The Crystal Bearers is what happened when Square Enix decided to take out all the FF7 whimsy from Final Fantasy XIII, which released one month later. No more chocobo racing, motorcycle scenes, minigames... FF13 was left a linear husk, while all that extra FUN coalesced into a symbiote that took over Crystal Chronicles and formed The Crystal Bearers: A 9-hour long romp through minigame after minigame in a fully connected overworld that, goddamnit, was one incredibly enjoyable adventure.

Funny thing, I really liked Secret Rings after getting a hang of the controls, and I didn't like BK at all. Not even for the waggling or mediocre combat, as much as the lack of significant platforming, and in my opinion, the game engine works poorly when you have to push forward to move, and left and right to strafe, and there's little diagonal functionality. SR was mostly what I hyped up Wii to be, and it's the only post-Dreamcast-era 3D Sonic game where moving left and right doesn't feel like some kind of minigame. I wish BK would have had some kind of two-stick control scheme, so that runan and swordan would be fun for more of us.

>>
>>384509735
the original was a Saturn FIRST PERSON dungeon crawler in a 3d space that even in Japan was obscure

the Wii version dropped that and allowed for 3rd person which fixes the worst problem with the game, however Baroque is a game that its tough to love because it involves a bunch of systems that you really need to understand and dominate to really synergize your item drops; the game barely explains these systems, you either read the manual or have a lucky chat with one of the NPCs giving you tips about the game

it's kinda like Isaac in that it's heavy RNG and its all item drops which make or ruin runs and item management is a central point even with space for 20 items you burn through them really fast and the game never really tells you what your objective is, you just go and hope someone points you in the right direction

I've been playing it for years and I still have to finish it because I refuse to use guides and I have yet to find another clue to get what I'm supposed to do to get the final dungeon

>>384510762
>Not played Overkill
It's probably the funniest one you should give it a try.
>>
>>384510536
nope it's a roguelike, you explore the basements of the Neurotower, an ever changing labyrinth of floors filled with monsters, you get dropped there practically naked and depend on drops you find to survive, this drops go from cloaks (basic defensive equipment plus abilities), wings (which give buffs/effects), brands (special abilities), parasites (same as brands) and swords

but the RNG is strong, I've had runs where I just have to run to the next floor because I can't find any sword and end up getting killed because late enemies can one shot you
the game does allow for the player to get items out of the tower and use them in subsequent runs but that can only be made on specific floors and only one item per floor

I know it's a joke and all, but Dokapon Kingdom can cause some serious fucking shit. A full campaign can last up to like 30 hours or more, since there are a ton of cities to conquer and they can get retaken by monsters and shit.
I have a game going with a couple of friends. We've been playing on the odd weekend for about 6 hours per session and let me tell you, there really is nothing quite like having the one in dead last become one of those fucking cock demons with retarded powers and go and rape all of your towns one by one, driving down your net worth to the bottom. This shit happened after roughly 20 hours of playtime. I damn near smacked the fucker over it.
Mario Party games last for maybe an hour to an hour and a half and there really are no stakes in it. In Dokapon you invest a shitload of time and effort into building your character, mastering jobs and raking in the dosh. Seeing it all go to waste is a legit reason to start a fight.

Honestly, though, why the fuck did it have co-op, anyways? Seems like an odd choice.

I fucking loved parrying that bitch. I remember it feeling really satisfying when I got it down and realized that she was actually one of the easier bosses in the game.

I once saw someone on YT beat her in a different way than the way I usually do it, the way you're 'supposed' to I think, where you parry all of her melee attacks and then hit her while she's stunned. S&P2 can be pretty deep sometimes.

>>384525363
It's really good for a casual party game. Quite a lot of content too.
Just imagine a board game mixed with very simple RPG. You get random encounters on most tiles and shops and towns on others. You get to invest stat points freely, but depending on your job, you'll gain points in certain stats faster with each level. So, a warrior will quickly gain a ton of str, while a thief will gain speed. Each job also has an ability outside of battle. The thief can steal items if they pass by another player, while a warrior will gain a temporary increase to strength every now and then. There are also a bunch of unlockable jobs once you master some. It's pretty damn neat. You can really fuck with other players by killing them and stealing their shit, drawing shit on their faces, changing their hairstyles or the best one, changing their name.
If you can get a group of three or four friends who are willing to invest some time into it, it's a blast. Just don't expect to be all that good friends afterwards.
>>
>>384525845

For Hibaru, just parry her twice and then she'll do a fake out for the third attack, then she'll come at you for real. Parry her the then and then she'll be stunned and then you can go in for a full combo or your charged up attack.

And funny, I hated the Horror Keeper, although I'm aware of some tech that I haven't tried before with him. Apparently you can deflect his strikes with your melee attacks.

dokapon kingdom is like a jrpg that you and your friends are all trying to finish. competitively. only one of you can marry the princess. it's so fucking long and it will make all of your friends mad at each other. it's also extremely fun and a great hangout game.

Wii and Ps2 did really get to show what an amaixing variety of games you can get when your userbase is so fucking massive and the game production is considerably cheap.

>Hibaru Yaju

The Wii attracted two types of people: those who didn't know any better, and those who knew exactly what they were getting. People who would buy a game with ugly as fuck box art as long as the premise seemed interesting, who didn't need to brag about having the very best. Not hipsters, not high-brow conniseurs, just any person of any kind who likes cool video games with novel mechanics and styles.

Its stage based puzzles, the stages are very small and concentrated, the puzzle vary but are tipically structure based and are really good, its point and click, imagine those old pc adventure games but with much less obtuse puzzles and full emphasis on them as opposed to story or exploration, there is a lil bit of story but the chars and settings are pretty good and memorable even if theu are pretty much just cliches of anime and pirates

Amazing game, deninetly play it

It just had a metric fuckton of shovelware that overshadows the good stuff and makes people think everything is just like Carnival Games.
>>
>>384528338
The single player campaign felt like the most bog standard fps imaginable, it just had a nice control scheme.

The online, which was much more important to me anyway, had real potential... but it was filled with cheaters, and having the lock-on mechanic kinda sucked all the actual aiming skill out of skirmishes anyway. Like really, all you needed to be able to do was press and hold C (iirc?)to lock the camera on to a nearby opponent and point the gun a little bit above the center of the screen for a headshot.

Fragile Dreams had atmosphere and nothing else. The game is short. The combat is so mediocre it puts you to sleep. May as well been a walking simulator and sold at a lower price. The side task of collecting all the cats doesn't reward you with anything but a minor alteration of a cutscene.

I was disappointed. Possibly the weakest game in OP's image.

It was okay. Not as good as the PS2, but I'd say it at least beat the Xbox, 360, N64 and GameCube. If nothing else the games were unique. It really was a strange console were the popularity was insane, but almost none of the interesting games got attention.

The Last Story was a huge disappointment is why. I absolutely loved Lost Oddysey to bits, and I bought a Wii quite directly for Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story.

The Last Story started off intriguing; the retro-gritty camera work, the ruffian band of vagabonds and mercenary / 'gritty' medieval fantasy thing going on...

But it just fell off the rails, somewhere in the early game and never came back. I played it to completion, but the sheer number of overarching design flaws in The Last Story is so overwhelming that it decimates what could've/should've been a really great title.

You cannot put The Last Story on the same list as Xenoblade/Lost Oddysey/even Pandora's Tower, because it just fell flat in too many places.

It deserved to be forgotten, much to my sadness.
>>
>>384487552
I'm pretty sure absolutely none of those were overlooked. They are all quite popular.

>>
>>384554008

Aye, that too. Unfortunately, Lost Oddysey set the bar unreachably high. Lost Oddysey is legitimately a Chrono-trigger tier gem of rpg-craft... but The Last Story was the rpg-equivalent of FF13-2; competent, but misses the boat in so many directions that you can't help but constantly wish it was just an overall better effort.

Yes, Graces was originally a Wii game and there is a translation patch which should be easy to find. Too bad that version was an abomination.
There were a ton of game breaking glitches that prevented the game from being enjoyable. A lot of them seemed to show up during a second playthrough though. The PS3 version improved pretty much all of these as far as I know and really is the only way to play the game.
There were some really absurd glitches in the Wii version though. Such as:
>Some cooking effects damaged party members who weren't in-battle
>Battle music would cut off seemingly random
>If you have 14 of one item and an enemy drops 2 or more of that item, they don't count
>Enemy AI would sometimes just stop working
>Characters would occasionally turn invisible when hit
>Learning titles were all kinds of fucked up
It was a hot mess and not really worth checking out. Not that the game was amazing to begin with. The combat carried it for me, but I don't really think I want to replay it anytime soon.

Man, what? I vaguely remember there being a lot of hype for this shit.
I actually think the sort of primitive look of Wii games make the horror aspect of some games more legit. It's obviously technical limitations so it's a downside, but the muddier textures and lower resolution can make things come across as more obscure which can be pretty neat.
