Bastion was a comfy and really enjoyable game

my favorite touch was how the narrator had a line for each weapon combination you used

Transistor had an awesome aesthetic but the levels just didn't feel interesting to me and it lacked some of Bastion's charm imo

I loved that aspect of it, she didn't even want to kill Royce, it's just that they were both stuck in the transistor and only one of them could get out. Red literally didn't want to do any of the shit the game forced her to, she just wanted to return the transistor so the world could stop exploding.

It's been a long time since I played so I'm probably gonna get everything wrong, but as I remember it:

The setting of the game (which is hinted as being a simulation but never actually confirmed) is basically run as a perfect democracy, where there's no actual leadership and people get to vote on literally everything including dumb shit like the color of the sky. The Camarilla want to take control of all this bullshit and make something cool of it using the Process, which I think already existed before them but was hacked into doing their bidding somehow. They needed to absorb artists, designers, freethinkers, etc. in order to shape the Process and help them create a perfect world, possible also because these were the kind of people most likely to object to them taking control. Red, the main character, is a popular singer who stays out of the spotlight and doesn't want to get into politics, but her songs frequently get (mis)interpreted as protest songs. She's married to Boxer (I think that's a fan-name though), who is an outsider and thus not in the city's databases and basically doesn't exist officially. The female bitch from the Camarilla (forgot her name, the first boss is her corrupted form) is in love with Red and wants the V badly, but Red isn't interested. So she arranges for Red to be put on the Camarilla's "must absorb" list in order to take revenge. Boxer saves her life by jumping in front of the Transistor and he gets absorbed instead, but because he "doesn't exist" this fucks up both the Transistor and the Process and basically sends everything straight to hell. Red's quest to save Boxer basically ends up with the realization that fighting is futile and shit can't be fixed, so she ends up committing "suicide" byt absorbing herself on purpose, so she can at least be together with Boxer again inside the Transistor while the outside world goes to hell at the hands of the glitched-out Process.

I love both games but I prefer Bastion for the combat, never really got Transistor's combat at all. Both games have superb art and music.
Pyre looks very good but the battle sistem doesn't look too intresting to me, I hope that storywise there will be plenty of chioses and dialogues.

Listen, all of this takes a lot of getting used to. And you do get used to it, after a while. There's three things I'll always miss, though. One: Not having to watch my step all the time. Two: ...Ah, forget about two. And three: I miss the songs. Folks from Caelondia knew how to carry a tune. Sure, we've got some songs on the old gramophone, but try and imagine what they sounded like. Playing to a room full of fine people, unwinding at the Sole Regret after a hard day's work. Those were the days.

I liked Bastion more than Transistor but both were pretty good. Will have to try the new one someday. Don't plan on buying it on or near release though.

I wonder if the new game will have any obvious suicide themes like their first two games. Bastion obviously had Zulf who was about to kill himself when you first meet him, and his character theme is also about suicide. Plus, the Calamity can be seen a whole country committing suicide in an attempt to wipe out their enemies. In Transistor, two of the main villains commit suicide rather than face their own mistakes, Red ends up committing "suicide" at the end of the game and the game regularly makes use of the phrase "moving out to the country" as an euphemism for suicide. Plus, just like the Calamity in Bastion, Transistor has some underlying themes of an entire society committing accidental suicide by messing with the Process.

I played it at PAX last year. It was actually a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be. I'm curious how they're going to shake it up though. The thing about sports games is that the sport is usually pretty static with the players being different from match to match or team to team. I'm curious what direction they're going to take it in. There were three archetypes in the demo I played, small fast weasel guys, fuckhuge strong characters, and medium sized characters. If they're going to give you more archetypes to play around with or not remains to be seen.

I'm sure there will be cheaters in the story that change up how the game is played eventually though. I imagine the meat of the game will be investment in its Oregon Trail-esque parts that smack of Banner Saga.

The dev stream showed a harpy character that could stay up in the air but had a weaker, hazy aura that left her vulnerable to anyone jumping at her.
Rukey and Barker both cover the same small and fast archetype but have different stats and abilities.
