i didn't say they succeeded. that's the design philosophy though. low barrier to entry, quick games, less depth, less mechanics required, and pandering with well-liked characters from their franchises.

it's the same reason wow numbers have been declining. they're trying to cast a wider net to bring in a wider audience by casualizing the game. as a result some new people might join due to the ease of entry but what drew older players to it in the first place is being phased out. this is what they've been doing for years now.
