Well in the book Oberyn uses manticore venom, which is supposed to kill you in a few seconds. But it's "tempered" with sorcery and specially prepared for Gregor to prolong his suffering instead of killing him straight away.

So poison had instant effect on his body but only prolonged his death.

About Bronn, that shit never happens in the books and I don't know if they even mention which poison is used in the TV-shows(on both Mountain and Bronn).

In the end Oberyn underestimated the Mountain. It's noted that he killed a lot of people with poison, but because he prepared this dose to not be immediately be lethal he fucked up. Kind of ironic. He probably thought Mountain wouldn't be able to move and would beg for Oberyn to kill him, Oberyn would ask him to admit his crimes and Mountain would do it just to end his suffering.

In retrospect it was a very good plan, but he didn't account for the Mountain being a fucking ubermensch.

today I will be holding the very last session of the campaign, an epilogue of sorts. They have killed the main villain and I think it felt somewhat flat, as they had barely any connection to the villain, I kinda fucked up the storytelling. It was pretty much them meeting a few weird characters interested in the occult, and foiling their plans, only to learn that they all were once part of a cult that has disbanded two years prior. The party followed the thread and found the ex-leader of the cult moping in the ruins of their old temple, but not posing any real danger to anyone.

Now they are travelling back to their home town, which they know will soon be invaded, as an army of religious fanatics has been on the move for the last few months. A simple sidestory to give them a few bits of closure before their characters are retired in death or the brave new world, as the city's only chance of survival is evacuation.

Then, in the next campaign, I will have them play as the agents of insquisition for this very empire, burning all heretics at the stake. Today I will introduce a traitor NPC that will carry over as a spy helping them in the next campaign.
