You are wrong. When holding a controller thumbs rest on the upper portion allowing natural thumb placement on the left stick for movement and placement on the buttons for actions.
The ps alternative placement falls on the d pad which is not useful.
The wiiu placement falls on the other stick for camera movement.
The only debate is if you think camera should have preference over action buttons which is incorrect as any decent game will have good camera not requiring much messing with and allowing focus on gameplay actions with the buttons.

ergonomics are shit, thumbs are constantly touching when playing dual thumbsticks, the sticks are loose as fuck, the rubber on them lasts all of 20 attoseconds, they're also convex for some retarded reason, same with the goddamn triggers.
That said, it's great for older games which use the gamepad and face buttons, so it's a good option for emulation.
Also the SCP drivers for windows require a dedicated bluetooth dongle and are finicky as all motherfuck.

I really can't get with the symmetrical joystick design at all. It feels a lot more comfy for my hands to have the left joystick and face buttons aligned because those are the two inputs I'lll be using the most. Also having both joysticks low makes my hands cramp reaching for them

I use it a lot and it's not a dpad. It's a touchpad that also clicks. When you "rock" it to a direction, it only registers that it was press and then checks where your thumb was at that time. A dpad has 4 buttons under the rocker that individually register if up/left/down/up is pressed.

I own five of those and they're all broken. Three broke while I was still using the console and two slowly died over the years spent in the attic. You know, busted cord, sticky face button or thumbstick spinning uncontrollably.

Dualshock 3 is better. It's identical apart from the triggers and the fact that it doesn't fucking fall apart.

The Xbone controller is very nice too, I admit it's better than Dualshock 3. It's probably my favourite although I'm not even that used to it yet since I've never owned an Xbox.

What's terrible is Nintendo. Now that I've become a Nintenbro and gotten Wii, Wii U and 3DS I'm actually glad there are so few games, not only are the controllers very uncomfortable and awkward to hold, my wrists and finger joints are in terrible pain after just four hours of playing. Right, and that shit breaks easily, too.

DS4 is only an improvement as far as im concerned. It has better sticks, triggers, and a better shape.
The light can be changed to whatever color you want or even off if you use it with pc, and they recently made the set up easier too.
But honestly, I will always prefer the gamecube controller.

I restored a controller from a psone the other week and all it needed done was for the contact pads to be wiped. they get dirty and some of the graphite I think it is wears off and you get phantom presses.

BTW, this is the controller anon thinks is fragile. There's fuck all there to break if you don't throw it like a child in a hissy fit. Even if you do throw it it's more likely the plastic shell will just break and the controller will still function. There is no reason to prefer the D-pad over the stick. The only thing that can't be done well with the existing touchpad/stick is digital movement on a 2D plane or inputting intricate D-Pad combos as would be used for fighting games. 2D movement on an axis as is used for all 2D platformers is still entirely functional with the touchpad. Removing the stick on the other hand would leave you with the kind of meh stick emulation of the controller which would mean worse analog movement on a 2D plane or Axis which are now more common in most new games and you would have to dedicate the touchpad to doing that when a game that does that would benefit from more input availability as opposed to a 2D platformer or a similar D-Pad reliant game which typically has fewer inputs.

PS2 controllers are flimsy as fuck. I've had 4 gamecube controllers withstand hundreds of hours of multiplayer abuse, and they still work perfectly.

Meanwhile, a PS2 controller that was only ever used in single-player games has a locking analog stick, shoulder buttons that jam, and fucked vibration -- it makes that maraca-esque noise where something has broken off and is sliding around in the shell.
