Nope. The Japanese manual states that the Death Egg crash landing onto the floating island causes it to land in the ocean. Western manuals left this detail out for some reason even though the opening cutscene in the game shows that the island isn't floating anymore.

Months ago. Then Iizuka confirmed it again in a recent interview with Famitsu. Then I believe it was recently confirmed AGAIN in one of those weekly livestreams the Sonic PR team does on youtube.

I believe in that same livestream they also heavily implied that Mania would be getting an animated intro and outro like CD.

Man it's easily turning out to be the second best classic sonic game
