I dropped IV so hard I kind of feel bad. I think I missed the entire point of the game. It wasn't fun and the shopping carts at my local market have better driving mechanics.

They both have really good campaigns but very little to do once you finish them(in singleplayer). GTA IV was a technical nightmare when it came out tho.
