Even if you've been on world first guilds its been awhile and everything means less and got old. 1. BC was trash and only slightly better than vanilla. Vanilla was also garbage. The reason for this is rampant class imbalance that they never address until WoTLK. This is why WoTLK will always be the best expansion.

2. Rolling on a private server is an exercise in ultimately pointless frustration. These servers tend to either have lag out the ass, be infested with foreigners who don't speak English, have nazi power hungry devs, shut down within a few months, or all of the above.

Paladins could not tank or DPS in vanilla. We had no taunt, and no mana regeneration. Even when BC rolled around and we could taunt, we were subpar compared to warriors, and our taunt targeting 3 things at once precluded our ability to tank certain fights.

Ret in vanilla was laughable and did almost no damage because we had no usable attacks and our autos were slow as balls. In BC, the biased devs gave only horde seal of blood, which was the ONE THING that made Ret viable in BC. Even then, we were the lowest DPS because they refused to give us the buffs we needed.

I don't know how many of you played back then, but everyone hated that faggot that wanted to play a prot paladin.
You see, warriors were the only class back then that could become uncrittable. You don't want your tank getting crit. Druids could almost cover for this with their huge HP pools, but they were still sub-par tanks.

Prot paladins, however, were utter trash. All they did was take away loot from someone who actually wanted to be useful.

If you want to tank, play a warrior. That's just the way it was. There was no other class that could tank in a viable fashion until Wrath.

if you play hybrid, it takes a trip to the class trainer to switch to another role
if you play pure, it takes leveling an entire new character from level 1 to switch to another role

it's not like this hasnt been tried by now - i remember back in cata (and in wrath too, but not as much) there were tons of guilds whose 10man roster had like 3 druids and 3 paladins, each filling multiple roles as needed, and filling up the remaining slots with whatever was available. i did the same myself - played paladin, mained protection but regularly used my ret offspec or switched to holy when the raid comp demanded it. shit was extremely OP.
