Final Fantasy XIV had its 8-man raid for the Stormblood expansion drop, and a projection of Exdeath is the final boss of the first "wing". Additionally, today the "Hard mode" version of it dropped, and Neo Exdeath is part of that fight. I assume that has spurred a lot of people to remember it, especially considering the other bosses within the first wing of the raid are other FFV bosses.

I could level a character just to see the FFV content, but I probably need proper gear and a party to experience it. It'd be a huge time investment just for that, which is generally fine, but the continuously expanding MMORPG model means that all that progress will be pretty meaningless by the time the next expansion comes out.

It's pretty ironic how the model that introduced content I want to see is the same model that keeps me from playing the game. I'm not falling for that shit again. Having spent ~2000 in WoW only to see it slowly deteriorate has made me wary.

Gilgamesh is a pretty notable one, then again he's in most of the games.

There's tons of bosses from the older games but they're mostly avoiding villains that are important to the plot of their own games. The statue gods from FFVI are major bosses for example, but Kefka is nowhere to be seen.

There's lots of FFV content and literally all of it except Neo Exdeath can be done without any grinding or pre-formed parties. The game has automatic matchmaking for all multiplayer content and it hands you good enough gear to do all the normal mode content, including regular Exdeath.

Gilgamesh is a major character for a long sidestory by the way, and is fought in two major boss fights.
