The reason this doesn't work is that adapter doesn't expose the actual interface the controllers use.
The adapter just polls the controller and passes the controller's state along to the host.
The host itself can't actually talk to the devices plugged into the adapter.

Was disappointed to find this out since I wanted to see if I could send GBA multiboot homebrew through it.
Still great for 4 player Dolphin netplay though.

I just turned the Mayflash one into a full-on drive bay expansion for my PC. I mounted the guts into a drive bay drawer, replaced the drawer face with a 3D printed one, and plugged it directly into my motherboard with an adapter. It took some screws, cutting, putty, and paint but now I've got a spiffy-looking set of GC controller ports that I'll always have as long as my computer isn't stolen or completely destroyed, knock on wood.
