Why did this series get less scary with each game?
it's the same game over and over again. It got less freightening by an order of magnitude with each iteration. Shit, even by fnaf2 I was done with the series, only to marvel at it becoming, what, a quintilogy?
Less focus on the gameplay
More focus on the money

It was never scary, you just got used to the sole mechanic that made the game popular, the jump scare. How the dev managed to creata an entire fandom around that sole mechanic is beyind me though.
lack of subtlety
same shit, different setting
Because the novelty wore off. The first game was brilliant and it's a shame that it will now be remembered as part of a trash series.
Very reminiscent of Saw, actually. Great brilliant first movie, shitty cash in sequels that drag it down.

Too much exposure and familiarity to the spooks. This happens to every horror franchise.
It's baffling that this shit still has a general going on /vg/.

>implying it was ever scary

credit where credit is due, man. foxy running down the halls after you got a pretty effective rise out of me. Too bad future iterations of the game failed to have anything even approaching that level of tangible impending doom.

Honestly it's just because of so much to do.
The first game used JS properly, as a punishment that provided tension from avoiding it, rather than as the main horror focus, and there was just enough stuff to worry about that it kept that tension going.
The 2nd and 3rd had too much shit going on and lost the horror aspect, creating more of a management sim. 4 did some interesting things but the moving around just killed it.
5 was fine though, because he finally realized he couldn't make them scary anymore so he embraced the lore that everyone followed it for.
