What went wrong with game developers?
>>
>>384367727
They are the cancer that is killing the game industry
>>
North America.
>>
>>384367805
Actually no. It's the consumer, willing to buy the shit that the developer puts out. Maybe if people would stop buying shit games, the developers of those shit games would go back to making good games.
>>
SJWs
>>
>>384367884
Wrong, it's the publishers with their market studies and wanting to reach a wider audience and their hostile takeovers of smaller studios.
>>
>>384367864
This
>>
>>384368693
If you can interact with others and not realize what hopeless consumerists they are, then perhaps you are the hopeless consumerist. That sounds edgier than I intended.

they cucked.

Why hire talented people who know what they're doing when you can hire unskilled idiots and pay them a pittance and then cover up your shoddy business practice by playing into vague ideas of progressivism. Its capitalism with a human face at this point.
>>
>>384367727
Game development requires exponentially more people now than it used to. Which means everything is filtered through hundreds of different lenses, loses any coherence, and becomes a focus-tested mass-market commodity.

Even if the developers aren't intentionally targeting "a wide audience", the fact that the mechanics, visuals, sound, levels, enemies, animations, etc., are all developed by 90 different people means that you have 90 different opinions on what it "ought to be like" fighting for dominance.
>>
>>384369096
Don't blame the people who own all the resources to make games. Publishers and people with a lot of money who don't give a shit about games came in and made it even more of a business and gouged the consumer. Marketing is one hell of a drug.
>>
>>384367727
It became a multi-million dollaro industry, which brings with it all kinds of greed and corporate pathos
>>
>>384367864
this
>>
>>384368693
If there was a shred of truth to this, Microsoft's involvement in the publishing of Ori and The Blind Forest should have destroyed it entirely.

jews happened
>>
>>384370887
Yea, I wish we could go back to the NES days when there wasn't any corporate greed. There just are not as many modern games based on fast food restaurants, soft drink mascots, and random unrelated games forced to change a sprite or two to become a game "based" on a movie. Those were truly the good old days.
>>
>>384370804
this is the correct answer.

if you have the chance to be involved in a huge project in entertainment industry then it will become plain as day how many concerns (money, politics, time, numerous producers, random crisis) take precedence over focused artistic vision and the quality of the work. It gets worse as you scale up larger.

You have to be a psychopath or insanely lucky to get in the position of creative authority, then you delegate work and you have to fight for every single thing you want done correctly. It's like telling the wind what to do with your sailboat.

If audiences had any fucking taste and there was more economic pressure to make something good, it could mitigate some of this. I think a reason games were done in the past is that only enthusiasts were buying them.

This here's the answer boys.

Money ruins everything and it ruined gaming, too. Fame, too. Why did we ever start idolizing these people?

so, it's consumers fault

>Why did we ever start idolizing these people?
Talent and intelligence are real, rare, and exceptionalism should be celebrated and those people should be raised up as high as they're willing to work. The problem is the money that runs the industry has no means by which to detect talent, intelligence, or exceptionalism.

They got more interested in pushing an agenda and/or greed instead of focusing on making something fun to play.

it's ok, post your patreon anon, I don't want you to starve
>>
>>384371896
That's mostly on the publishing side. Studios consisting of a tightly knit group of people were given a project and its up to them how to handle it.

Know studios consist of hundreds of dissociated people that are closely leashed by the suits and every decision has to be filtered by marketing.

Developers are no more in charge.

Nerdy millennials who were the losers and outcasts in high school, grew up to go to college to do make the only thing that kept them happy as a kid. There they discovered a shallow sense of purpose in life as a SJW to hide there hatred and insecurity for the world.

The consumer did,and then the industry adapted to them. Gaming no longer became a hobby, nowadays It's simply part of "Those things everyone does",But such an audience does not dispose of the time nor the will to plunge into games with mechanical depth nor extensive length. And such,RPG releases become rarer by the day and any form of attempt to introduce unique mechanics such as Square used to do is replaced by shit everyone knows how to do like QTEs.

Watered down, became most franchises, some went as far as expecting a video game crash to rebalance all,but It simply gets voided à la X fans will eat anything Y shit in their plate.

ITT: We need to go back to the good old days where only small companies like Atari, Nintendo, EA, Taito, Capcom, Bandai Namco etc. existed and these multi-million dollar companies and the companies they were associated with, such as Warner communications, didn't care about profit over making quality games.
>>
>>384367805
This, get rid of game developers, put the power back in the hands of the consumers and gaming is saved

Graphics.
When the 3DO released, it got laughed at and pushed aside. The PS1 came and made a cheaper alternative, and the people who got laughed at reassessed their way of handling things.

Next thing you know, cinematics and style took place and more people came in. Publishers saw the money being pulled in and the rest is history. The people who didn't like video games started running companies that made video games or became the majority consumer.
>>
>>384372462
No, it's publishers catering to non-gaymers. You seem to have trouble with reading comprehension.
