What, you mean purely aesthetically? Some implementations look far better than anything MS ever did. Like Zorin for instance.
>>
>>384364734
Shit mostly works and when it doesn't I can make it work.
>>
>>384365014
if its better then why is there a less than 1% linux users on steam?

Linux is the name of the kernel that Linus Torvalds developed starting in 1991. The operating system in which Linux is used is basically GNU with Linux added. To call the whole system “Linux” is both unfair and confusing. Please call the complete system GNU/Linux, both to give the GNU Project credit and to distinguish the whole system from the kernel alone.

Actually, it's called the LSX. It was called that in all the magazines and forums back in the day. You would know this if you were not underage.

vidya games

i run GNU/Windows
>>
>>384365573
Thousands of native games (1/4 of the entire Steam library)
Tens of thousands more using emulators or compatibility layers

Not that different from the situation on Windows 10 where win32 applications run through a compatibility mode except that it has better D3D11 support, and (depending on your GPU/drivers on Linux) worse D3D9 and below support.

Are video games more important to you than privacy?
>>
>>384365880

you have no privacy no matter what combination of software you run

Official closed source AMD drivers by the same devs as the Windows drivers (same stack, just minus D3D)
vs
Open source AMD drivers maintained by a few guys in their spare time.
>>
>>384364734
Because I want a system that is not overpriced junk (Apple) and just works with regards to gaming, multi-monitor support, bluetooth etc without spending hours digging into vague config files to get anything to work (Linux).
>>
>>384366235
Unfortunately Microsoft have decided that they want every Windows user on 10 and cut off 7 from essential upgrades for new hardware and modern hardware capabilities.

Long term you'll have no options other than to bend over for Microsoft, switch to GNU/Linux, or stay on 7 on old hardware.

If you're Christian sure, but only because that's what God ordered his followers to do.
Honestly I'm surprised there hasn't been more lobbying from the Christian right to make developers support it.
>>
>>384365868
most of those thousands of native games are indie trash from bargain bin. the best stuff never comes for linux.

forza. there just are no better racing games
>>
>>384364734
I do not.

>>384365641
You can literally make it look just like Windows. Or you can make it look actually good. Or you can make it fuck ugly. Linux doesn't have a look. Linux looks however you want, does whatever you want and doesn't make decisions for you. Linux is your bitch. Windows is your master.
>>
>>384368547
>you can make it look actually good

really? how?
>>
>>384368632
The easiest way is just getting the newest KDE with some themes, but there are good looking Gnome 3 forks too.
>>
>>384368745
>KDE

lol
>>
>>384368632
Gnome 3 looks pretty good, had a lot of features years ago that Windows only recently caught up with too.
>>
>>384368632
Fucked if I know m8, I like keeping it simple and you'd spew if you saw my ancient looking desktop (by choice you understand, this desktop isn't even a part of any distro) But people like to install all sorts of flashy wankery, you'd be a fool not to believe what can be proven with a Google image search.
>>
>>384368360
I literally unironically just realized I can play forza on my PC.
I have never started up the windows store and just thought of it as an xbox game.
>>
>>384368808
Hey dude, I got by with IceWM alone and it was pretty rad. But I fail to see how an old looking desktop is any better than Windows, at the end of the day, though the increased terminal capability of linux is fantastic, when it comes to UI design windows is much more polished. I say this as a man who's always hated the time he's spent working in a Linux DE
>>
>>384369028
>>384368808
Call me a fag if you want, but I find Pantheon desktop really beautiful.
>>
>>384364734
As opposed to what, shitdick? This is the video games board, all the games that matter need windows to run.
>>
>>384369226
Most of the games you're probably thinking of don't really need Windows, just an implementation of the Win32 API and D3D11.
Today even the latest version of Windows doesn't really run those natively, but instead through a compatibility layer.

Windows UWP-only future doesn't seem like it will be very good for PC gaming as we know it.
>>
>>384369028
>when it comes to UI design windows is much more polished
Are you on 10 right now? Then go to settings. That's a nice modern look, isn't it?
Now click on control panel. Oh my, now we're back in Windows 7 design-wise
Now select mouse options. Hello XP, my old friend.

Polished UI my ass. It's a hot mess of legacy code with no visual consistency.
>>
>>384370073
you're right but it also means I know how it works on any pc
linux's settings panel whatever it's called is just shittier to use most of the time TO BE DESU
>>
>>384370073
if you have windows 10 32 bit edition, it's even come with sysedit and 16bit programs stuffed in there
>>
>>384370662
>you're right but it also means I know how it works on any pc
What are you talking about, Microsoft have fucked with their setting panel constantly with it being borderline unusuable on some of the versions.
>>
>>384364734
I'm ready to install 7 in a VM with gpu passthrough.
>>
>>384365014
gee I sure do love playing Tux Racer
>>
>>384364734
It's the only viable OS if you're mostly a PC gamer.
you can't prove me wrong
>>
>>384371149
yeah but it's basically windows 95 with some added settings
>>
>>384364734
Because I like my PC to be functional
>>
>>384365014
If you like just sitting and staring at your desktop, sure. If you want to actually *do* things with your PC, you need Windows.
>>
>>384371241
Its ok, but I prefer more hardcore racing simulations like Dirt Rally which runs really well with RadeonSI (unofficial AMD drivers).
Apparently Dirt 4 is coming soon and it will probably get Vulkan at least in the Linux version.

Not sure if that will come to Windows so far a number of Vulkan games have only used the new API in the Linux version.
>>
>>384370073
That's honestly the only thing that bothers me about Windows 10. On the surface, it looks sleek and modern, but dig into it at all and you see the skeletal remains it's built upon. Granted, for some things, like device manager, and older style layout does seem more functional than the stripped-down minimalist design of the basic settings windows, but they could have at least updated the look to match the Windows 10 aesthetic.
