It might work but it'd have consequences. Healthcare workers, roughly 10% of the workforce, would need to take a paycut, and doctors would need to be ok with only having an upper middle-class lifestyle. Drug companies would get fucked pretty badly with the inevitable price control measures so they'd be less able to afford expensive clinical trials. And of course tax hikes. It still might be worth it, but there's certainly downsides.
