Sonic X has the same problem I have with the Kirby anime: OC's that bog the show down if not outright taking it away from the characters people actually want to see. At least Sonic wasn't made into a mindless baby who can't speak.

Sonic gets transported to Chris's universe in the first part. Eggman tries to take over, they stop him. Then Sonic's world and Chris's are actually getting kinda merged together, which leads to the events of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2. Events play out, and at the end it turns out that if Sonic's universe and Chris' universe completely merge back (they were the same long ago or something) time will stop, so now everyone has to go back so they send Sonic and all his friends and stuff home.

Then there's a 15 year time skip, as it turns out Chris never got over it and spent the next 15 years making a (one way) portal to go to Sonic's world. He gets there and it turns out only 6 months has passed in Sonic's world so Chris becomes a kid again, in body at least. Some Dragonball GT shit happens and the chaos emeralds are now IN SPACE, so they build a spaceship and go collect them. Standard shenanigans happen and the series ends with Tails killing his waifu and Chris gets home due to a random once-in-a-lifetime rift in the space time continuum or something.
