It's fucking trash, for a game where big faction firefights are somewhat common they are garbage at switching targets. Likewise, they're garbage at working in groups. They have zero awareness of "hey my buddy was just killed there" and will approach killzones slowly one by one. They also shit the bed if you snipe them but that's like every FPS AI ever so I'll give it a pass. I heard mods make them MUCH better, though.

Oh well that's fair, I haven't played vanilla in years. But I'm playing Autumn Aurora 2.1 right now, and the AI is ruthless. They will work together as a group, they will flank the shit out of you, they'll NEVER peek the same corner twice, they will always try to flush you out, they will actively seek cover all the time. They will wait behind a corner and ambush you. They will sneak up on you like that webm showed and fuck you up. They act exactly the same as the much lauded FEAR AI only they do it in an open level rather than tight corridors.

There's also the A-life system, which is the heart and soul of the STALKER games.

Your guns are inaccurate, their guns are inaccurate, they're all a bunch of pussies who talk about flanking but never actually do flank so they just strafe awkwardly in and out of cover while you're leaning behind some tree or pipe or corner and trying to score a headshot with a pistol or slug-loaded shotgun. And this lasts for minutes!

Later you just get a scoped rifle and waste them in seconds while moving through the areas.

There's a lot of mods that remove the requirement. Hell, Sawyer's own mod does that and makes it so PA Training instead makes PA essentially weightless as long as you are wearing it. Ubisoft games feel so fucking bad to play, you have this huge sandbox but as soon as you take a step outside the path you are supposed to follow shit breaks, the game freaks out and tries by all means to take you back to the cinematic experience rollercoaster.
