I would really like some "out of left field" type playstyle options like this for the beta.

After watching a little over 3 hours of gameplay at EVO, The game seems to be lacking depth and over all seems really simplistic with a low ceiling.

Not to mention all the characters appearing to play very similarly in conjunction with the developer saying some characters will be better for assists (each character only having one) than fighting to keep more in line with the show have me fearing this is going to be the same type of crap we always get in DBZ games where about 4 characters are viable because of canon power levels and everyone is pretty much just a costume swap as far as moves and styles go.

I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not as confident as I was at announcement.

Gohan: Rushdown, he doesn't have much focus on projectiles and instead relies more on getting in on opponents and comboing which can be tricky due to his short range.

Freeza: Very clear zoner with his ground explosions and rocks.

Goku/ Vegeta/ Cell: The all arounder shoto types. These are characters that are balanced and will be used as the core from which other characters and styles will be centered around. Goku is your Ryu. He is a near perfect balance while Vegeta is focused a bit more on rushdown and Cell a bit more on zoning.

Buu: I didn't see enough gameplay to really get a feel for him.


It just feels like characters are similar because all of them have access to a projectile and a rush down move to cover the screen. This said, they can certainly do more to highlight the differences in other characters as they branch further out and I hope we see some wildcard picks rather than just the usual fair in order to take advantage of moveset and variety potential.

Well, Hit has timestop powers, the trio de dangers or whatever had unique abilities, Frost had poison attacks, there was the metal dude who couldn't be beaten easily and kept raising the temp of the arena, there was the gopher dude.

Did you guys know that Toriyama actually wanted to end Dragon ball with Frieza, but his editor kidnapped his family and forced him to continue?

He promised to release his family after he introduced the next villain, so he made android 19 and 20. The editor didn't like it, so he only released his wife, not his children. So he made android 17 and 18. He still didn't like it, so he released his son but not his daughter. Then when he made cell, the editor actually did like it but still didn't release his daughter, and started having sex with her daily. He threatened that he would stop giving her birth control unless toriyama continued for another arc, and that's why we got Buu. It's also why buu is so disjointed and almost a mockery of itself, because Toriyama was at his wit's end.

When he finally got his daughter back it took him about 19 years to get her to recover from the trauma. That's when he started working on super, this time for himself, not for any editors.

I mean they first appeared in DB and you can argue Tien and Yamcha were most relevant there. What about piccolo he first appeared in DB but most people think of him as a Z rep? Do you need Kid Goku and Roshi (or characters who exclusively appeared in DB part 1 to count as a DB representative?)
