Disney doesn't need Mickey to be renowned, that's likely exactly why they stopped bothering with his promotion. Only someone with one set of tricks would run the same routine.
They have tons of properties, many of them derivative, they can use that generate far more lucrative results than Mickey, Goofy and Donald even if those three are among their oldest and closely tied with the idea of them. But many of the concept recently made already cast far more massive shadows with little effort. This isn't even counting support pillars Lucas and Marvel has given them.

It's everyone else that needs their familiar iconic mascots to float because generating new equally successful IPs is a hassle to pull off and manage.

You recognize the distinct mascots you do from Nintendo, SEGA, Konami, Capcom, etc because you swim in video game waters. If you could see the chimera silhouette that is Walt Disney next to them think you're looking at some ancient Deep Sea Cryptid.

Well Disney is all about quality and money. Nintendo seems like a good candidate for for them to buy if they want to get in the business of making video games, although they can't buy them out Nintendo loves Disney so much I think they would allow for a major partnership. With this Disney would probably force Nintendo to make a more powerful mainstream like console to get more sales. A console with Disneys marketing and Nintendos well know characters would almost definitely crush the competition. Maybe the lauch title could be some Mario Mickey Mouse cross over. It sounds pretty good but another option for disney is just making they're own console but I don't know how that would work out
