Firstly because they feel the need that they want to try stomp on "lesser" players

thirdly they lose all their stats/rewards etc, the things they are obviously aiming for because they care about them so much to create a new account to smurf. So it is counterproductive all around.

Also instead of staying in their skill level and getting good, they will stomp on enemies for a while and get put back close to where they were originally, but will less practice of playing at that level.
So most likely they will get stomped on again, butthurt and smurf again.

Ranking systems are meant to match a player with other players of the same skill level, then you either get better and move up the ranks, stay in the same rank or get shat on and move down.

The funny thing is I encounter a lot of people on their mics saying they are on their smurfs lol (they say it's a smurf account as a backup defense when they play poorly and lose your team the game) I'm convinced. Either that or they have got too much time on their hands which is unlikely.

The justification for smurfing in OW is because of the fucktarded way blizzard's ranking system works. Your normal MMR is factored into your initial ranked placements, so if you dicked around while learning the game in quickplay a lot before you jumped into ranked then you'll probably end up a lot lower than you could be. There are plenty of stories of people getting "stuck" in silver or gold after placements, but after making new accounts they were able to place in diamond or higher. I guess its a way to circumvent having to climb out of the shit filled gutter that is low rank overwatch.

That being said

People in this thread have no idea how smurfing works with mmr and are just butt blasted about getting beat in comp by someone claiming to be a smurf. Besides playing on a friend's account, it only takes a few games to get placed into your original skill level or higher. You literally have to throw games during placements to end up and lower.
