It's the story of how Jill got out, and adds tons of totally uneeded shit that's the start of Capcom adding more elements to Racoon City than needed. Umbrella sent a completely useless and irrelevant commando team in who died immediately, and then they sent in Nemesis. By the end, there's like 70 helicopters in flying in and out of Racoon City dropping shit off or picking people up. And there ends up being like 10 labs in Racoon City.

3 is almost a carbon copy of B route in RE2 with Nemesis just being a slightly more annoying Mr. X.

This is a legit hard question for me, but I gotta narrow it down to 2 or 3.

They are all great games, but I have a special place in my heart for 2 - it was my first RE game. Decided to buy RE1 so I could finally experience the original. The following Christmas, I got RE3 and ff8, and played em both at my grandparents house while my grandma watched. She loved watching me shoot zombies, surprisingly.

It really depends on your perspective. RE1 is the most contained, being the mansion and all. RE2 opens it up with a peek at Raccoon City, during the outbreak, but expands to the police station, sewers, underground labs.

RE3 had the biggest scope of the originals, and runnin' around an infested city was awesome as hell. Also, it had a useable m4a1.

I probably have to give it to 2, simply because of the way the scenarios worked.

Remake 1 sold only modestly. Not a bomb or anything, but it didn't make them any money. Capcom had huge loses in that era, so they didn't bother with it.

Then a decade later they think about half assing some HD remasters of their old game, and then they're blown away to find out that the HD Remaster of Remake sold more than the original. 1.9 HD Remake sales vs. 1.0 original sales. So now they're putting Remake 2 in the works.

I guarantee you if Remake was PS2 focused it would have sold more.

No other game gave you so much power, if you knew how to use it, or so much survivability and competence. A savvy player could get thru the entire game, with ease, using just the pistol and knife, because the game gave you everything you needed to do so. Code Veronica is fun but requires dedication and being a fan of the classic Resident Evil games.
The best version is arguably the CVX HD rerelease on PS3, but the increased lighting can make it look weird at times.
The CVX ports to GCN, PS2 and PS4 are all good, but they add shit that wasn't in the original that come out of nowhere really, such as added Wesker scenes. The only thing I can call a good addition would be Steve's hair, as in the DC original, he was modeled to look like Leonardo DiCapreo.
And the DC original is probably the best version because it lacks the extra scenes and I'd say it holds up better. None of the versions really hold up, as it has the cartoony Dreamcast look to it, but the original doesn't have the main villain fly through the air and land without actually jumping.

The newer games were good for what they were, but if they really want to do REmake 2 right Capcom would have to use the original fixed camera. Otherwise they run the risk of fucking up their own established cannon. I'm not memeing. I still love 3, but to me it felt like the start of the powerful BOW-slaughtering MCs. You needed to conserve ammo but the horror was replaced with tense action sequences. Nemesis was "scary" in the same way the chainsaw guy in 4 was. It wasn't deliberate or tense. CV was cheesy and over the top but it still had more of that ambient spookiness and moments where you're tensely creeping around a corner hoping it to be safe. Dodging and early access to OP weapons made 3 feel like you could take most stuff on. Your only punishment was that if you use too much ammo you have to run from Nemesis instead of fighting him.

If you played as Jill you got more than enough ammo to blast every enemy in the game. And I played Deadly Silence as Chris recently and I still ended up with 20 magnum bullets and 40 shotgun shells before facing the Tyrant.

Putting it on Gamecube only when at the time Resident Evil was by far seen more as a Playstation franchise than a Nintendo one was extremely stupid of them to do. Even if we pretend to ignore this fact it still wasn't going to hurt for them to have ported it to PS2 and I'd argue even Xbox.

Some like to say people were getting fatigued by Resident Evil and I won't deny that entirely but I'm pretty sure the bigger issue here was the Gamecube exclusivity. As impressive as that 1.9 million sales is I'd guarantee the game would have sold much better had it released for all platforms all those years ago.

Plus they could have eventually double dipped with HD remasters anyways in time.
