For starters, "trans" is a word element that's in tons of different words that have absolutely nothing to do with transgender. And no matter how you read the word it doesn't make sense. Phobia would imply that people are actually afraid of transgender people and not just uncomfortable with or looking down on them. And if you put the emphasis on trans, then it'd imply that you're simply over fear altogether.

So basically. Transphobia doesn't mean what people want it to mean. So why is it used everywhere? Use better words.

That said, it's because they have this mentality of hammering down the nails that stick out. A culture of conformity.
