What are your expectations for the music quality in Sonic Mania?
I mean, it's obvious that the music will be good judging by Mirage Saloon, Studiopolis, and the inclusion of Stardust Speedway, but do you think the music for this game will be well-received like the classics?

There's still a spring to the right of the one-up, making you lose progress in running away from the wall if you just roll into it. It was intentional.

Another thing that proves this is that Launch Base was full to the brim with Robotnik Monitors in the lower paths, but there's like only one in the 3&K version.

So I'm replaying Sonic 3 via Sonic 3 Complete since I never tried it out before and fuck, this game is making me want Hydrocity in Mania more than ever. It has such cool aesthetic, music and mechanics, if they pick Labyrinth or Tidal Tempest over this I'm going to be so disappointed.

A lot of people think they're gonna choose Labyrinth though because of a couple tweets and how Labyrinth is after Green Hill in the Sonic 1 code and the Green Hill Act 2 boss leaves a hole in the ground after you beat him and Taxman says that the whole will have more meaning when the game comes out.

In my opinion Sonic 3 Complete is a neat little thing, but S3&K is pretty perfect the way it is, even with the minor bugs that Complete fixes.

The designers of the original knew what they were doing when they put that stuff together, and I think the only legit complaint is the swapping of the Knuckles and Boss music for different tracks.

Even that I would argue is a matter of taste, because I prefer the S&K version of the boss tracks.

According to sources, Hard Boiled Heavies appear as the Act 2 bosses of new zones. And since Eggman is the boss of Green Hill it would make more sense for them to mix things up a bit.

Besides, I don't think they'd jump the transition from 1 to 3 so quickly. Chemical Plant would probably come first if anything

So where does Mania fit in the timeline/lore? Sonic 1 had Sonic learn of the Chaos Emeralds and defeat Eggman for the first time. CD had him save/ditch Amy. 2 started the Death Egg saga and 3&K picks up directly where 2 ends (Death Egg falls onto Angel Island, Sonic and Tails pursue, Knuckles meets Eggman first, who convices him that Sonic us after the Master Emerald).

The Sonic series from Sonic 1 all the way up to Sonic Advanced had really tight knit lore, with neat shit like Adventure 2 references SA1 and Classic through Gerald Robotnik creating Shadow based of murals in Hyrocity/Hidden Palace based off us knowing he visited Angel Island from his reports in Sonic Battle.

Where/When does Mania take place in the timeline? Between 3&K and Adventure (because Sonic 4 is non-canon and doesn't respect the timeskip between Classic and Adventure). Will it make sense that Sonic will be going from zones on South Island to new ones then suddenly to zones that should be on Angel Island or Little Planet?

Unless you're counting Game Gear games then it's pretty straight forward. And even if you DID, over half of those games are just different versions of the same game from the Genesis and a few spin off titles that could go pretty much where ever you wanted with the exception of Tails' games which explicitly state they take place before Sonic 2. But in reality, the only games that have the most continuity with one another are Sonic 1, 2, and 3. Everything else is up for debate unless it's stated otherwise in the game manuals. And even THEN autists will argue over the authenticity of it because of "muh Japanese story" and "muh localization".

Okay, for this VERY LONG post I'm going to assume that Sonic Team want to split up the dimensions so Mania and Forces don't take place in the same one.
So Modern and Classic Dimensions exist.

Sonic 1-3K (and Sonic CD) occur in both dimensions in the same order.

But after that, Generations occurs (from Classic Sonic's perspective), which causes the two Sonics to meet, splitting the timeline.

This means that Classic Sonic's dimension changes when he returns there after Generations. Mania could then follow.

As for Modern Sonic, the release order for mainline console games would apply for the most part (from Modern's perspective).
Then Generations happens, after which Lost World and Forces follow.

Modern Sonic experiences the mainline games' events more or less in release order except for Sonic 4 and CD (He experiences 06 but his memories are all but wiped along with everyone else's at the end.).

Classic Sonic meanwhile gets affected by Gen's events from HIS (and possibly Classic Tails and Eggman's) own perspective which he might notice after entering the portal at the end of Gens. So not only is he Sonic from the past, he is now a Sonic from a different dimension as a result of the two meeting each other.
Mania and Forces could follow on from this from Classic's POV but we'll have to wait until the games release to determine where they stand in the Classic Dimension.

Just a thought exercise to figure out what Sonic Team would do if they ever decided they should create timelines for Classic and Modern dimensions.

It's safe to assume that Flying Battery will allow for a transition from South Island to either Westside or Angel Island.
As for Little Planet, if Azure Lake is picked, Little Planet's chain could be there, as Never Lake does look similar.

That's assuming Hydrocity is the second zone, if there were zone in between it would be smoother. Or maybe that hole leads to an Eggman's Bunker, and Sonic uses a teleporter.

Also, another question is why does Knuckles get involved? Maybe an Eggman's robot kicks him off of Angel Island and he gets pissed and runs after him.

Still, Sonic 3&K always has a short zone transition cutscene. It had great attention to details. If Mania doesn't follow up, it's not dealbreaking, but it's a flaw and not as in depth. Even 1, 2 and CD had transitions when it was important (transition from Scrap Brain to *Labryth* Scrap Brain act 3, Sky Chase being a glorified cutscene, CD including the bits with Amy).
