Definitely going cop or corporate

I see how solo and netrunner would work for a open world videogame

But some of these classes are not going to be a thing in the game or they are going to be just shooter guys with more charisma or something.

Let's speculate how these will actually play
>Rockerboy
Melee focused. Uses lead pipes and shit to hit things. Can buff/debuff with songs.
>Solos
Typical stealth character.
>Netrunners
Can hack turrets and security cameras. High level ability to hack other cyborgs and direct damage them.
>Techies
Healers.
>Medias
Bonus to charisma and dialogue.
>Cops
Focus on gun use.
>Corporates
Start with more money.
>Fixers
Bonus to bartering.
>Nomads
Jack of all trades

Each class will also get a couple flavour dialogue options every so often

A template email appears on the screen with several blanks in it. Each blank box when clicked pulls up a word bank of possible choices to fill in.
Unseen to the player each word in the bank has a point value which when all the boxes are filled adds up to the convincing score. Each mark has a gullibility score based upon their wisdom stat which must be beaten by the email's convincing score in order to successfully deceive them. As you rank up in hacking the word banks become smaller reducing chances of picking unconvincing words and changes the words to better more professional sounding higher pointed words.

I still can't believe all nine of the original classes will be playable because at least four of them would be "too hard" to do in a video game.

>Rockerboy
No particular bonus for combat. Will be able to buff his allies and cause random people in the street to fight for you. Bonus to dialogue when dealing with the lower classes.
>Solos
Combat and stealth specialist. You can choose which type of combat you specialize in.
>Netrunners
Hey kid, did you like Watch Dogs? Also mess with other people implants: "That's a nice robot arm you've got there, it would be a real pity if it decided to strangle you"
>Techies
Pimp your car and create custom implants to Jack yourself and your allies up.
>Medias
Stealth with non-lethal takedowns and overall bonus to dialogue.
>Cops
Gun experts with the ability to call backup and request a car/supply drop/whatever from the PD.
>Corporates
Shitton of money. Can use his corporation's resources to call hit-squads, bodyguards or buy off the police. Has a personal crew with a netrunner and a couple of Solos as long as he can afford to pay them.
>Fixers
Bonus to dialogue when dealing with the underground. Buys and sells stuff and makes a bunch of money.
>Nomads
Vehicle specialist with a secondary combat bonus.

This is some typical late 80s shit that doesn't work nearly as well in modern times anymore. Punk and rock are dead and not shocking anyone anymore, modern day journalism isn't about reporting from the streets, it's about making up shit on Twitter, law enforcement isn't about humans patrolling streets and gunning people down, it's about mass surveillance and despite Max Max having had a resurgence the road warrior thing isn't rooted in modern culture when cars are now electric and can be remotely disabled. The credibility and potential immersion behind the dysoptian setting goes straight out the window; it was built on pop culture that is no longer relevant to a modern audience and only people around 30 get off on. All of these classes were build on movies and sci-fi of the 60s to 80s and since then things slowed down significantly. Do old people who can still relate to this shit make a good audience for video games? Probably not, most are working and busy living their lives, it's always the young generation and kids with lots of disposable parental income you need to milk.
As much as I love cyberpunk settings I do realize it feels more out of place and no longer as relatable as it was in the post-80s media bubble. When was the last time you saw a movie about futristic hacking? One about martial arts in lawless city environments? One about global corporate conspiracies that actually surprise the audience?
Whatever game CDPR is making, they will have to market it real hard to get the kids on board.

To be frank, cdpr kinda did something similiar with w2, i wouldnt be suprised if it was like 2 story chapters exclusive to each class that then share the last 2 or 3 with slight alterations.

Yes, it's essentially a character creation system for tabletop. In Cyberpunk, you can pretty much roll up a whole character from scratch, backstory and all. Also, here's the first page of life path which I skipped over.

But at the end of the day this isn't hacking. It's essentially bluffing and more suited to a Media. You're using your charisma and smarts to figure out how to manipulate someone into appropriately doing what you want, which begs the question why you're even bothering to "hack" the thing you're hacking in the first place since you could probably just schmooze your way through the issue.

Social engineering is one of the oldest forms of hacking.

No more shitty hacking minigames please. It's a stupid shitty abstraction of a real life process that is neither fun nor dynamic. Every game and movie about hacking eventually runs into this problem. Bioshock I's plumber simulator is probably the worst attempt at making hacking fun in a videogame ever although Shadowrun Returns deserves special mention for making it's crappy hacking minigame not only unavoidable to advance the main plot but also bringing combat to a screeching halt every time it's used to play basically the same shitty combat in cyberspace but with worse mechanics and more boring enemies.

It's cyberpunk though so they'll probably feel obligated to add it regardless, so hopefully they'll just make it a skill check and the netrunner is some sort of detective character that's not focused on hiding in a van playing shitty minigames to open doors across the street.
>>

What tearing? Also not sure what you mean by unpleasant to look at, but you're shutting yourself off many great old RPGs if you can't deal with 2004 graphics... if anything, the game's in-dialogue animations and facial expressions are some of the best ever made.

Anyway, make sure you have the unofficial patch installed, gog version is prepatched so you don't have to do anything.

>Rockerboy
The "high charisma" class. Lead pipes seem pretty useless in the Cyberpunk universe.
>Solos
Combat-focused class(es) even if the Assassin is obviously a stealthy character, probably equally viable as heavily armored.
>Netrunners
Hacking systems, turrets and cameras and the computing environment of wherever a mission takes place to learn secrets, as well as debuffing robot and cyborg systems. Access to information no other class has.
>Techies
Healers probably equally versed in deadly poisons, pathogens etc.
>Medias
Talky characters who write copy at the end of a mission to bring the evil corp to its knees. Can talk to or gain access to information no other class has access to because NPCs will only talk to them on condition of publication.
>Cops
The most versatile and OP combat class, shit wage and endemic corruption.
>Corporates
Able to buy the best gear in addition to personal security, can probably buy/sell/bribe their way through most situations without firing a shot.
>Fixers
Same as corporate except having access to black markets for gear and info.
>Nomads
Bikers, gangbangers, drifters?

>real hard to get the kids on board
Who the fuck cares about the kids? Pretty sure this game is going to be M rated anyways, sex, drugs, violence, disturbing scenes.

Its a game for adults it seems, and I have no problem with exploring the setting and nostalgia of those times and mindsets, just because the modern world is not like this at all doesn't mean we can't have interesting unique vidya games set in such a setting, and different time period. You might as well apply that same faulty logic to the Fallout games but wait, people fucking love those and they love the aesthetic and the old classic 1950's music too.

So its kinda like everything you said is bullshit. This being /v/, I'm not surprised.
>>
>>384252957
Cyberpunk can't be shitty for everyone otherwise the punk part also doesn't make sense. For there to be an oppressed class, you need an oppressing class. Fact is, Deus Ex is set in a world of massive income disparity where people are desperate enough that amputating your limbs and becoming an indentured servant who is contractually owned by a corporation seems like an attractive option.
>>

I always thought Solos were supposed the most combat-oriented role, although I hope there's going to be a viable stealth option.

Yeah, but if you push an expose about corruption in the local law enforcement, your boss will absolutely want to air it, it brings in controversy and controversy brings in viewers and viewers spread your name. Maybe it just so happens that a cop was looking for a way to root out his corrupt coworkers and by coincidence you release your expose at the same time.

Lawful good is boring in single-player games that are designed to let the player do whatever they want, and being a goody two-shoes is the most boring path possible; lawful good is great in multiplayer games where you get to dick over other players who think they can do whatever they want.

Even that aside, Dredd is hardly lawful good, given how many times he's supported the Justice Dept's underhanded tactics for civ company acquisition, framing perps for unrelated crimes, personally made the choice to nuke literally millions of civilians, and supports the law to the letter no matter how unfair it is. He's Lawful Neutral through and through.
>>

m8 there are very few games that let you just be a cop cracking some punk heads together and a billion games where you are the punk in that senario. I probably won't end up playing as a cop myself, but I totally get why people would find that appealing. It's not the same, it's more like you had to control the game by bench pressing in real life and the game would tell you you didn't as much as you did because your character STR was too low

I know where you're getting from but understanding language is automatic, you can't just turn it off if you don't want it and if you can understand something but your character doesn't it ruins the immersion which is a big factor to many gamers

The only way I can see it going is either making it possible to progress if the player understands the language like anon suggested or somehow obscure the languages you don't have translation modules for to make the player feel like they don't actually know the language without it even if they do
>>
>>384259716
Please do point out how dredd doesn't have to deal with someone trying to kill him for what he does all the fucking time.
The day the law died alone proves that idea to be wrong.
If you had said that dredd survives because the comic can't exist without him that's one thing, nobody would ever deny that protagonists always get away with bullshit because they're the main characters, but you said
>not some judge who's allowed to do the justice w/o somebody capping his ass in first few months
When one of his very first comics deals with someone trying to kill him because he's judge dredd means that statement is utterly wrong, because he most definitely does get people trying to "cap his ass" all the fucking time, from practically every possible group including corrupt judges

Since people seem confused about how these work in the tabletop game i'll summarise them
>Rockerboy
'Face' character. Good social skills, decent income, unique mechanic that lets them call on groupies, and a degree of musical talent/fame you can use for roleplaying (e.g. getting into clubs or performing at corporate parties for infiltration)
>Solos
All-in combat characters. Frequently sells themself to a corp in character creation in order to afford their combat cyberware, which they NEED to function well. Basically has sixth sense for danger.
>Netrunners
Stealth hackers. Only ones capable of doing it normally, with the hacking mechanics being their unique gimmick in itself. Always has some augs.
>Techies
Medics who can also repair weapons/cyberware/vehicles and scavenge shit they really have no right being able to find just lying around or in bargain bins. Usually has some augs.
>Medias
Another face character, this time usually working for a corp. Special ability is that so long as they maintain the image of a respectable journalist people will believe whatever shit they feed them in most situations - letting them go places and meet people in ways nobody else could. Also, they can air fake news stories if needed.
>>
>>384246508
This is true. There's a certain cargo cultism around cyberpunk that ignores the context in which many of its genre tropes crystallized.

But we know the game will have mohawks and blue leopard print jackets so I guess it's just going to be an 80s romp.
>>
>>384257261
>being so proud of being a WW2 rape baby
>>
>>384260410
It's extremely hard to roleplay as someone not capable of doing something the game forces you to do and if you can I'm jealous of your imagination

Roleplaying as a weak or strong character is easy because making your character lift things doesn't require you to lift shit in real life and get a reality check every second
>>
>>384260593
>Cops
Mix of combat and face character. Usually corp or government owned but being a loose cannon is permissable. Their Authority skill works like a very strong intimidation and deceipt boost, and they can do cop stuff as expected - make arrests, access the evidence locker, etc.
>Corporates
Rich as balls middle managers and up with access to company assets at the GM's discretion. Usually aug'd and has good gear due to their wealth, along with some social skill, but has little in the way of combat utility besides their gear to compensate.
>Fixers
Faces with some stealth utility and lots of connections and bartering skill. Street Deal ability lets you get access to rare or esoteric supplies and equipment in exchange for your services at the GM's discretion.
>Nomads
Wandering mad max raiders essentially. Combat/driving/repair are their forte, and for the situations not covered by those skills they can always rely on their family to lend a hand or give them a lead.

But yeah, as you can probably guess Cyberpunk as a game is very focused on the social, stealth, and hacking side of things with an emphasis on giving a diverse parrty lots of choice and freedom for how they do shit. Hence only 1/3 of the classes having any real focus on combat.

Not sure how they'll translate this all to a vidya gaem unless they cut some of the pure Face characters and replace them with add-on ones.
>>
>>384260875
So I suppose the only way to accommodate people like you who can't differentiate between themselves and their characters is to make people in-universe speak a gibberish language that doesn't exist IRL.

The thing is, Dredd's world- MC1 and beyond- is interesting enough that it 100% works even when Dredd is barely present or totally nonexistent. There's a slew of spinoffs that have been going for years if not decades as evidence- Anderson: Psi Division, Lowlife, the Simping Detective, Insurrection, Lawless, the list goes on and on, not to mention all the mainline Dredd strips where Stonyface himself plays background character to the other shit happening, including epics like America.

This stuff was written in the 80s, it was hardly a prediction. The US was arguably still a rolemodel back then.

The predictions I find the most funny is the ones that say Japan will dominate the world culturally, like in Shadowrun with its nu-yen. In the 80s it really seemed like the digital world and technology would be Japan's domain in the future.

An Asian country is on the verge to become the richest in the world, Japanese culture has spread worldwide to the point that even normies in school watch animu, and we're writing to each other on an imageboard exported from Japan. Maybe I misunderstood him, but I interpreted his comment about the eurodollar as a prediction of american dominance, which struck me as weird since that was already reality in the 80s. The euro prediction was on point.

As for Japan; if you've played Shadowrun you know how much more exaggerated it is. Japan was and is without a question a very important country for technology and the digital world, but not the extent imagined. Street samurais, katanas, and the yen being the international currency of choice.
>>
>>384265875
>Street samurais, katanas, and the yen being the international currency of choice.
That sounds less like a prediction and more what sounded cool to the writers.

Cyberpunk as a whole is more of an excuse to imagine a cool world to play in than proper predictions.
Stuff like the Eurodollar and the more grounded predictions are to make the setting believable to have fun with "street Samurais"

Probably the same way the Witcher did where you can play however you choose, as not everyone who played probably concocted potions and used solely combat magic. That's the benefit of different classes, you can pick which one speaks to you best.

Pretty fun. It makes for a good MGS simulator.

Post retro music that is fitting and tasteful and we might hear in a nightclub or fixer bar that isn't vaporwave, please.

You say that, but this is CDPR.

All the cinematic trailers they did were actually canon.
>>
>>384270356
Maybe it's one of the events you can have or a story scene if you're a Cop. Imagine if they released cinematics that showed a small slice of each roles experience in game.

>Crazy blade-armed hellbitch can be a potential boss encounter
>>
>>384270618

I imagine it will become an actual story in the game somewhere simply because it's so iconic at this point.

10 million views ain't no joke.
>>
>>384269631
>vaporwave
Too bad, because there is some pretty good stuff out there. As long as they don't put too much synthwave, a little bit of electronic and a little bit of vaporwave could be right

This is a company that referenced the Killing Monsters trailer as a conversation in-game, and showed Olenna from B&W in a launch trailer a year before she appeared in-game, so I'd expect something from the C2077 teaser to show up in the game. Maybe it shows up on the newscast for Media to report on, or a Cop character who joins the Psycho Squad will do it.
>>
>>384271030

And before that their TW2 trailer was showing how Letho canonically killed Demavend and the TW1 one was an almost one to one recreation of one of the short stories in The Last Wish.

These guys don't fuck around.
>>
>>384270618
It probably already happened but the characters from the trailer are in the Psycho Squad.

I was memeing, even though I genuinely hope not a single vaporwave or synthwave track will make it into the game. I can enjoy it on occasion but I just don't think it fits for some reason, in fact I think it's the single most wrong type of music to include because nothing reminds you that this is just a gameworld quite like a piece of music designed to emulate the high times era of cyberpunk futurism but really was made last year by someone using Ableton who has a Drive poster hanging over their desk.

But, like I said, post whatever.
>>
>>384271030
That's another possibility, it could be this stripper is a major character and that scene is an important part of the story, but it changes depending on what your role is and that effects how you approach the situation. Just guesses though.

Hell no...

She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

I hope so. If not specifically class related, perhaps the same quests for everyone, but from different perspectives depending on what you are. Like Netrunners almost never directly involved in any situation and instead behind deep behind the scenes.
