Should I use any graphical mod for my first time?

No it ruins the scary mood

Yes. the HD pack obviously. Graphics are outdated as fuck, and will kill the enjoyment for someone playing it the first time in 2017

The Dark Engine polycount limit is so low that adding some kind of high-res textures would create such a jarring juxtaposition that it makes the game look uglier than vanilla.

Yes.

I wouldn't say it KILLS the enjoyment, I just acknowledged it to a limitation of the times and paid no heed to it, the game still plays fun and is atmospheric despite the dated graphics. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the HD textures though and it's still a clear upgrade.

try playing it first and if you can't handle it download something. I played it without 3 years ago and loved the aesthetic and think any HD pack looks like total garbage.
There are horrible pics of a thing called "System Shock 2 Rebirth" but even something like this doesn't fit right with me.
I didn't, it's still fine for today. I personally don't get why people would want to look for mods for a game they've never played before.
