Did Ness deserve a spot?
Itoi is friends with the company, specially with Iwata who had a big role in smash 64
He probably deserved it more than Captain Falcon.
Yes.
Did Jigglypuff deserve her spot?
>>384227817
yep
at the time she (he) was the second most popular pokemon because of the show iirc
>>384227342
Did Jin deserve a spot?As for OP, bear in mind that EarthBound 64 was right around the corner at the time of release
>>384227879
>Second popular because show
No that's meowth
Sakurai Chose Jiggly because it's easier to mod over Kirby
>>384227879
Meowth was the second most popular overall but Puff was the second most popular in Japan and Nintendo only cares about Japan. Easier to put over Kirby also was part of it.

Meant for >>384228512
No, but that's exactly how it should be. A good game should always have two or three outlandish characters.

I feel he works just enough as the weirdest literally who kind of character for the time period. At the same time though, I wonder if his is the spot that would have went to Marth had he gotten into Smash 64 like initially planned.
>>384229347
>literally who
not for japan
>>384229537
No one gives a shit about gook figures
>>384229594
Except Nintendo for some reason.
>>384229537
If we're talking exclusively about Japan, then Marth would have been an even more obvious pick for them.
>>384229732
True. But Marth would also have been way harder to animate.
>>384229347
Is that an official model of Marth or something a fan made?
>>384230221
Fanmade, but Sakurai has said Marth was a character he wanted in Smash since the beginning, since he'd have a more technical sword style to contrast with Link's more straightforward approach with the blade. But obviously the lack of western awareness is what kept him off the game at first. Hell even in Melee it was considered that he and Roy would be only playable in Japanese copies of the game, until western playtesters said they liked them too much to just drop them.
