Beyond mid level for average players the game is incredibly frustrating to play, because match up is everything. Not only character match ups, but whether your opponents has trick up their sleeve that you cannot defend against, and you don't understand why you couldn't defend against it.

In fact the same almost happen throughout the tournament, through the pools, top 16 last night, and even in the winners bracket tonight. Tokido's showing singlehandedly saved the show, because he had to adjust multiple times, come from behind and DOWNLOAD COMPRETE his opponents. This is reserved for only the toppest tier of players with absolute best state of mind. Even Punk couldn't adjust when Tokido started crossing him up and realized that Punk couldn't defend against him.

For your average players, it is incredibly frustrating to get blown by some random players online without understanding why did you get blown apart. It is more fun to ask for salty rematch without learning rather than watching and analyzing videos of your losses and learn from your mistakes.

In SF4 I could be satisfied playing online when playing a good set. In SFV, it's either you coast brainlessly and BTFO your opponent, or get BTFO'd without understanding why it happened and left with a salty feeling of the game is broken.

Infil was unstoppable for like half a year, punk has been winning everything for the past like 4 months, Du was winning everything around his CPT win, bonchan won 3-4 majors in a row recently with fucking nash. Tokido has CONSTANTLY been making top 3s since the game came out. Fuudo has made pretty much just as many top 3s.

For average players, it is easy to get UNGA BUNGA'd online and not understanding what went wrong moreso than USF4. So in SFV for mid-low skill average online warriors, you either coast on autopilot and GG EZ your opponent, or you get blown up and not understanding what went wrong except for the salty feeling that the game/certain character is broken. Even throughout this tournament, so many players are coasting on auto-pilot and only Tokido shown the true capacity of adjusting and turning the tide around.

The wall from mid level online warrior to consistent local top 4s and surviving the EVO pools (all of which most average people could've hoped for) is pretty steep if you have a life, work, obligation and just playing casually. I could either watch recording of myself getting BTFO and playing terribly online, grind out training mode practicing punishes and confirm, both of which are not rewarding enough, or coast online and get salty about it. If I have 3-4 hours per day max to relax do I want to grind it out with all the negative feelings against the midwall to become truly elite, or should I just play Persona 5 and shitpost on /v/?

Behind every successful, consistent champion is a top tier sparring partner to keep them motivated. JDCR had Saint, Tokido had Mago, Infil had Fuudo. It's hard to find someone IRL who's at your level and had about equal dedication to the game, and unless you have autism grinding online is pretty frustrating by design. Offline you either BTFO your buddies, or you get lapped by someone who put so much more effort into the game than you are. Such is the life of your average casual fighting game enthusiast like me.

You don't see those characters every day at this level of play, and with a chance of winning the event. People were cheering for them and they delivered. The audience cheered more for itazan than they did for du at the ceremony

Tokido played masterfully and did some crazy shit in this otherwise monotonous game, Combos weren't reallly the highlight of the show, so the audience was more hype about movement, whiff punishing and some setups here and there that tokido had

It was all about the history of most players in the top 8 and how things went. Very emotional, and a shitton of drama

The players were the protagonists of the show more than the game itself
