The main difference besides a few added jobs/chars in the PSP version is the script.

PS1 version: Stiff and shoddy translation (and the Germinok Scriptures and index entries are virtually unreadable)
PSP version: Over the top pseudo ye-olde-English, doesn't even try to be an accurate translation.

So, choose your poison: Translation that tried but failed to be accurate, or translation that didn't even try to be accurate.

I don't know Japanese, so I can't comment on that, but as far as the English versions go, I prefer War of the Lions. Not only is it more sophisticated, it's also more detailed and conveys more emotion and character.

The original has a poor but serviceable translation that got the job done, while the PSP version throws the baby out with the bathwater and puts in, as someone else said, a pseudo olde english translation. PSP version has more game content and animated cutscenes, but I feel like the very first one completely fucks up the scene it's actually trying to portray to add in shit that wasn't there. Every other cutscene I've seen in the game has been pretty damn good though, and for the most part obnoxious parts of the olde english aren't as prominent later on. However, the PSP version has some sound issues, and the game needs to be patched to not have god awful amounts of slowdown that will make you wanna kill yourself. Both are easily emulated.

Personally, I'd say original, but if you really can't stand goofy, poorly done but passable translations, or really love FFXII, then go PSP.

The Kickstarter got funded, but they lowballed the amount they'd actually need ($4000 goal to make what they pitched aint fucking happening) and couldn't pay anyone to work on it full time, so nobody did anything.
