This game wasn't even trying to be that intellectual though. In fact, it's message on gaming is nowhere near as hamfisted as it is in Bioshock 1. Not only that, the ending wasn't trying to be some deep philosophy nonsense either, people make it that way even though the game repeatedly tells you how the last bit works, then makes it even easier to understand considering Burial Under Sea exists.
